996 vs 997

Just wondering what the communities opinion is concerning the head light desing of each. When the first 997 came out I was not a huge fan of the head light design; however, it seems to be growing on me and I actually think I like it better than the 996? What is your opinion?

The 997 headlights are retro. Retro on a 911 = fail. But other than that the 997's are more aesthetically pleasing. You'd have to picture an updated 996 style headlight on the 997 to make a fair comparison.

consider that the 997 style is a "slight" lean in the direction of the 993 front end styling.

the driving lights / front-ish-side-markers and the highly unusual exhaust outlets on the back of the 997TT are what have kept me appreciating the 996 not to mention the wheels that just don't seem to fit with the styling of the rest of the car.

I had both and the 996 black cab was stunning BUT the new 997 style grew on me.

If I had to go back to a 996 it would be fine tho. They are still a nice looking car.

I thought about doing a front end conversion, just trying to get a feel of what every one thoughts are on the 997 front end.

I don't hate the 996 mark-II lights... but the 997 headlights are what a (modern, aerodynamic) 911's *should* be. =)

My wife thought my sold 997C2S looked friendly and my current 996tt coupe and 996ttS cab look angry and sexy. By the way Rob, thanks for putting me in touch with Akram. He did a great job on my coupe and the Proto650 install. Sorry I missed you at the July meet in H-town. I hope to go back again when it gets cooler in fall/winter.

You are more than welcome and I concur about Akram, he knows basically everything about Porsches. Be it the transmission, the brakes to building a bullet proof 850 hp 3.8 liter 996... not to bad of a resume! Also, I heard through the grape vine you put a beating on a GT 700 or something like that? I heard he spent like 60,000 dollars and you beat him by 6 car lenghts! Now that is impressive for such a bolt on kit. I am glad you like it and you really need to drive my ATS triple clutch... smooth as butter! Akram put it on my car and did some mods to it...who knows what kind of magic he did to the clutch but the next time you are in H town take it for a whirl! Or you can PM roadsterdoc... he drove it last week when we put a good ol woop'n on a new Nissan GT-R!
Have a boosted day
Rob
