wow!! At 2 bars, that was what C16 is made for, but I seems many tuners think MS109 will be fine. IMO, if you wanna use C16, just DON'T let it sit for any extended period of time.

C16 is far "safer" fuel. MS109 is only 105 octane compared to C16 which is 117 octane.

I personally prefer unleaded fuels over leaded, but at maximum boost levels...C16 or Torco 116 will definitely provide much greater protection than 105 octane MS109. It's pretty simple; the higher octane you run, the less chance you have of detonation occurring.

I'm almost 100% sure that if you try to run MS109 at 1.7 BAR or higher, you're anti-knock sensors will kick in....or worse.....

Rob,

Both Todd and Tym run and recommend running C16 for high boost applications...

I gave my opinion in the 2nd post of this thread....

While tuning on a load bearing dyno, I have been able to archive MBT timing on 109 with out detonation. This means I was able to run more ignition timing then would actually increase power with out knocking.....

C16 has his place, this I agree....in my opinion, there are very few cars in this community that will really benefit from it.

How about plugs? Since it is so hard to change them as well as costly do you have to change them with high frequency?

I haven't needed to change my plugs since I never run more than 2 tanks of leaded in a row. If I use leaded fuel, I switch back to unleaded after every 2 tanks of leaded to clean the plugs.

My car does not need that much octane..LOL..., but I ran Blown gas drag motors for years and nothing I ever tried was as good as C16, 9.25-1 static with 34-36 psi of boost, zero issues, a great fuel to be sure.

Turbo engines LOVE the C16 - especially these 996TT purr like a kitten. With that said though, I always make sure to run at least a tank or two of unleaded through as soon as possible after using to clean things out. No harm done even with cats and O2 sensors.
