Still one of the fastest 996's around...? (Gemballa GTR750)
I decided to check what kind of fast (on a straight line, I can show also track oriented cars..) used 996's are there for sale and saw this Gemballa GTR750 for sale in Germany:
Even though I have seen some of the first Gemballa GTR variants are not the most reliable (back in 2000 they turbo'd GT3 mk1 engines etc.) out there you still got to give some respect to Gemballa and engine builder TTP for this car =)
I know this is OLD news but I remember this like yesterday: This car did amazing 21.7 seconds 0-300 km/h in pure street form.
That was 6 years ago (2002) in a test of Sport Auto magazine.
That is amazing if you see the huge rearwing it has...(back then when I first came to this forum here was some guy who claimed in his signature he has the world's fastest GT2 with a bolt on kit )
Another nice addition from Gemballa is that (I have zero Gemballa parts in the car and neither do I plan anything) they managed to push a lap time of 7.32.4 at the Ring back in 2001 with Wolfkang Kaufmann & GTR600. That might not say a lot but back then the track surface was in so much worse condition as today and the tires were poorer as well so that is an amazing achievement that shows the 996 can be made lightning fast! And we 996 drivers do like that fact!
Once in a while I hear "from the pros" about 1000hp 911's in the old continent which are not the famous Protomotive monsters. These same pros have told some crazy acceleration numbers but do not give the test data out - this is due to privacy which people love in Germany or due to bull**** Anyway I checked out there's no such cars in public sale at the moment.
Still spotted this over 800hp GT2 built by Ruf and 9FF which is for sale. It might have some speed:

Congratulations of your achievement Not many have that kind of data of their cars and perhaps they never get opportunities or *****
(I'm in the poor sub-600hp team so no need to test, 6th gear goes all the way to limit so that's all I need to know )

Just for the records, TTP had nothing to do with this engine build. It was outsourced.

I know the "ruf/9ff" "GT2 and it's preowner very well...It NEVER had more than ~650 HP. PN for more...
The Gemballa engines are nice with triple intercoolers, but from what I heard, the quality of the engine depends a bit from the time the engine was built. I have some DRIVEN specs from an owner who does constant 5,2s 100-200 kph.
