2002 Boxster S - 996 Engine Swap!
My dad has several Porsches, one being a Boxster S. He loves the handling on the car, but has been *****ing since day one about it's lack of power. Recently, he was visiting me in LA and I let him drive my TT. He almost sh*t his pants, and when he got home and drove his Boxster he called me telling me that he was thinking of selling it.
After a long conversation, I convinced him that he should swap a 3.6 996 motor in it, do the entire suspension and wheels. We are doing the project in October. He is putting JIC coilovers, H&R swaybars and strut braces, 18" HREs, a 3.6 litre 996 motor, and a custom built exhaust system. Should be making about 345bhp!
The pimp-daddys at Speed Gallery are going to do all the work, and hopefully when complete, we will be able to drive the Boxster around and find some 360 owner that we can leave in the rearview... that will be the day
I will update more when the project begins.

There was a very nice write up on this very topic in a recent issue of "derVorganger". The shop that did the work was in NY. If you would like a copy of this PM me and I'll send you a copy.
Sounds like it should be very HOT!

Why not investigate turbo-charging or super-charging the engine before committing to the 996 N/A swap? I don't know how expensive getting a used 3.6 is compared to turbo-charging what you have in there.

I was gonna say the same thing. My brother looked into this before he decided to sell his boxster S. There were a few places that seemed to have good SC kits.
It'd be a cheap investment compared to the 3.6 motor. However the 3.6 motor would seriously be PIMP!

As far as supercharging boxsters goes, it seems that nobody can pull this off sucessfully yet (ask Fabryce Katuba at Hartmann), and that is why we are going with the engine swap instead. No lag, ~350hp, with Boxster weight, and 50/50 dist. with race suspension and wheels should be kick ***! We are getting those new HRE competition wheels w/ the black centers.
In the end, if the car is still not fast enough, then maybe we will consider putting a s/c on the 996 motor if it will work.
I will keep everyone posted once we get started in October. Should be a lot of fun!
