Front Differential Chewed due to incorrect wheel/tire se up

The 245 35 is as large as you could go (with luck) w/o modifying the front radiator bracket.
Here is how close the 245 35 19's were
Here is how my 295 30's look. Rim is more wide than the tire, but feel nice and firm when cornering

Man, the wheel sticking out past the tire just scares the crap out of me! No "wiggle room" at all if you slightly miscalculate a driveway for example.
Also, FWIW, checkout onlinetires.com. I bought my rear 315/25 PS2's from there for just over $1K picked up. Also, you can find some slightly used (various tread depths - no patches or plugs) 235/35 PS2's on Ebay (about 40 listed right now). And, since the fronts are slightly taller than the rears, slightly used fronts will be an even closer match.

I always keep tire specs within the range recommended by the MFG. They do this for a reason....

I am running 265/35-18 on a 9" rim, lowered to GT2 heights, no rubbing and no rolled fenders.

Well on a good note, my car is finished. After getting a used front diff from a forum member (thanks!) and paying the restocking fee, the total installed price was $3365. As I'm not one to follow the masses I'm probably going to go with my above mentioned front tire sizes on custom 19x9.5 up front. With proper offset/camber/ride height I think I can make it work without rolling fenders. If it does come to that, so be it!

You're welcome, glad it worked out

HI,I just went to 295/35/18 rears,26.1 and 245/40/18 fronts,25.7,Conti DWs.
I can not believe how good the car feels on the street as far as ride and it handles my power in straight line accleration..I am not a track road racer so I never do push my car to the handling limits...

Those might have a close diameter to each other but they have a larger diameter than the stock spec 18". As they are taller you might get into rubbing issues you cannot resolve. 235/35/19f and 315/25/19r is the closest to stock tire diameter.

Hi,I am running stock suspension , wheels and no spacers ,with my above post, larger diameter combo with No rubbing at all..

WOW...even though this is an older post.. I have finally read all 15 pages on this post and this forum is awesome to read and look for info plus the nice cars everyone has too.. and i think i will go with 295-30-19rear and 245-35-19front on a set of hankook ventus v12 they are going on a 03 996tt, because all the distributors here cannot get any 315's.. any opinion or suggestions would be appreciated..

I use the Michelin 305 30 19's and 235 35 19's in the front. My friend runs 20's, neither of us have any problems. My TT is a daily driver too.

Your front drive is useless with a 305/30/19 and 235/35/19 combo since your rears are bigger than the fronts. The viscous coupler of the AWD system requires that the rear wheels turn slightly faster than the fronts otherwise you can not transfer positive torque to the front. Very simple....
