Is there a Doctor in the House

I know that there are a couple of Doctors on this board, and I need some help.

My uncle has been very sick for sometime now, he is a diabetic and is recovering from prostate cancer. He still has some internal bleeding from the radiation and has also become anemic, due to all of that it looks like he is now suffering from Ascites, or fluid in the abdomen, he has been pumped full of diuretics and it doesn't really help at all, I don't know why, but the E.R. Doctors in San Diego are F**king idiots, and will not treat him fully. I am asking if anybody know a good doctor in the greater San Diego area that I can take him too so he can get the necessary treatment because it is driving me f**king nuts, any response would be a great help.

Admins: I know that this is Off Topic but it is urgent that he gets help.

EDIT: here is a good resource on Ascites and all that they have done is the Diuretics route but it is not working. His liver function it at about 40% and slightly rising, and if I don't hurry his body may shut down in the next week. Because he is not getting the nutrition he needs.

If it is any consolation he was a 1stSgt in the Marines for 25 years

I don't know anyone in San Diego, but we have 2 fantastic cancer centers here in LA.

1. USC Norris Cancer Center (LA)
2. City of Hope (Duarte)

You might also call 1-800-USC-CARE to get a referral to a USC physician specialist in your area.

I am sorry I can't help personally, but what your uncle likely needs for symptomatic relief of the discomfort from the ascites is a simple 10 minute procedure called a paracentesis. It consists of placing a small plastic tube in the peritoneal cavity (abdomen), using ultrasound localization, and evacuating the fluid. I am a radiologist here in NC, associated with a major cancer center and we do this procedure on 5-10 cancer patients each day, some every week or two. It is normally done by a radiologist and in your area, it should be easily obtainable. Talk to your uncle's oncologist.

Does he have an oncologist now ? He sounds like he needs a paracentesis to get some fluid off, but will likely only be a temporary fix and it will reaccumulate. The fluid is likely coming from cancer that has spread or metastasized...

What he needs is a physician who can manage his chronic condition. Unfortunately in most ER's, there just isn't enough time to do a comprehensive workup on a cancer patient.

Get him to an oncologist, find out if his cancer has spread and to what degree. Is he a candidate for chemo ? What is the current state of his bloodwork ? May not even be able to do a tap if his platelets are too low for risk of further bleeding...

In reality, there is just not enough info provided to give you any meaningful advice other than to get him to a good onc.

UCLA is highly regarded in academic medical circles...
