In Clarkson's top 100 cars DVD he puts 996TT second, as best car you can buy today. He than puts jag e-type first - as best car of all times - well a true British traditional oddness. But it seems he likes 996 TT just fine. :-).

JEremy, does like the 911 turbo, but he likes the looks of Lambos and Ferraris more. The show is funny and should be taken that way. His road test of the GT2 was as he was screaming the whole time.
As for tracking, I don't know if a Gallardo is going to be more expensive to track than a GT2. More expensive to repair maybe. Probably more forgiving, though, like the 911 turbo is. Also, the gallardo had e-tranny, which gives it the advantage in acceleration. The old gallardo with a 6 speed, got walked by a turbo 6 speed.

When the GT2/and turbo come out with PDK, look for a solid half second or more in the 1/4 mile. The new Carrera 911 with PDK tranny, which is the slowest of all 911's, beat a new M3. The new auto manual trannys coming out these days are amazing.

yes, again, the tranny is the major component in that. Just like it is in the new nissan GTR and in the 911 with PDK. These new trannies are amazing, but they remove the sporty feel from the car, IMO. Even though a 6 speed manual is slower I prefer it.
Manual tranny race for both and the end may have been quite a bit different.
The gallardo gained 50-60 bhp, and in my video above the old one got walked easily by a 911 turbo, 50 bhp is not enough to make up for 4-5 car lengths. That tranny and 50 bhp is a whole different story.
