Boost Problems And Flashing CEL
#19
i have just disconnected the battery for 15 mins to clear everything
(as well as the maf connector - not that i think that makes any difference)
I reconnected them both and went for a few more runs
driving along in 3rd or 4th at 3,000 rpm i hit the accelerator
the car pulls smoothly right up to redline with boost building upto 1.4 bar
If i try the same thing but start at 4,000 rpm the boost builds to 1.4 bar so fast (within a second) the car stutters and will not accelerate
Trying again and again from 2,000 or 3,000 rpm the car pulls cleanly to redline everytime
each time boosting to 1.4 bar
I've just done this for 50 miles! and no sign of a CEL yet
I'm very confused now

what mods do you have? ecu? turbos?
When you disconnected the MAF it still studdered under boost? OR only when it was connected? If it stutters white disconnected then its not the maf but more likely plugs.... OR maybe a hose is loose.( boost leak)

THanks Mark
No mods other than DV's
I've not driven the car with the MAF disconnected yet
I'll do that tonight
I know it's starting to look like either MAF or Plugs
How likely is it that I have a boost leak too?
Drivability seems ok at the moment
Don't understand why I'm making more boost now
What's making my stock car boost upto 1.4bar?

Do you have a spare MAF?
If not go and buy one from Eurocarparts... you will need a backup anyway... most go through a MAF... then try that!
If it ain't that... probably plugs or leak like Mark has already mentioned.

OK gentlemen
I took the car for a spin with the MAF disconnected and it runs fine
In fact the damn thing pulls like crazy! - better than when I bought it!!
No stuttering what so ever no matter what rpm i'm at
I reconnected the MAF and what do you know - instant stuttering
So I definately need to replace the MAF
Now i'm wondering - what does the MAF actually do?
My car is running fine without it - so, what is it for?
Also - I still don't understand why my stock car (except Forge DV's with green springs) runs upto and beyond 1.4 bar??
Any ideas?

Your car is not running good without a MAF. You will see when you replace it.
I don't suggest running for long periods of time with a bad MAF. You will run rich and burn out your cats.
