Exhaust Mufflers
#17
We use 200 cell cats to address a broad range of emissions compliance demands and reliability. As a manufacturer, it is better to be over-engineered than to have a lot of calls and problems due to emissions testing, CEL's, etc. We are offering a product we have tested under a variety of conditions and feel comfortable with..and the difference with 100 cell cats is only a couple of HP on our exhaust.
As Mark has pointed out, you could easily buy a 100 cell cat exhaust of a different brand and experience less gain than with our 200 cel, straight through design...I feel we have a proper mix of sound level, performance and reliability to please the majority of customers and tastes.

too many factors I think. pipe size type of mufflers number of turns, type of turbo, type of cats. if you have enough money you can try them all

yes thats where the mufflers are... and as you can see its a no brainer....
if that can hold 1000 rwhp then Im sure it can hold 500 rwhp..
but thats not for everyone....

Every new picture you send me is more extreme than the last! if that's at all possible anymore!!
I like the simplicity of your system but don't think i could run it as a daily driver
Also, being in the UK I need cats as we get emissions tested every year
Is there a benefit from having the long pipes cross over instead of just flowing from the mufflers straight out the back of the car?
I'd have guessed the less pipework there is the better?

I just wanted to show you what is behind those shiny fancy mufflers... and franckly speaking its either a crossover or a U back muffler ...
OK one more "radical idea"... I made this a few years ago as well... I used 100 cell cats with custom piping and techart tips....
My point is: there are better and worse exhausts... I agree... and like I said, my friend tested 2 $4500 exhaust systems and actually lost power.... it was choking the turbos.... but for the most part average guys like you never even go that far so you will never even know the difference....

Yeah - I now know the basic layout inside the shiny mufflers couldn't change too much between different makes
I think most of the information about exhausts could be hype/marketing
I'd like to know what gives the different exhausts their notes/sounds
That way I could get something made that suits what i'm after
Why do some boom and some scream?
The layout is the same, the pipework is generally the same size, the cats don't have an impact on noise, it's only the mufflers that are different
Is it to do with the materials/packing inside the mufflers that changes the sounds?

mufflers make a difference... diameter of piping, bends etc.... a 200 cel cat will quite down the 100 cell cat .... etc etc...

I have this and I put down almost 1000 rwhp... 3 inch pipe with race mufflers period...
Not too much engineering LOL
My close friend has tested a few Expensive exhausts ($4k to 5K) and he actually lost power on the dyno... all that on a 600+ rwhp set up.... not going to mention names but you guys would be surprised....
