I've Just Flatspotted My Tires
I got a new set of tires about a month ago as my old ones were showing signs of wear
Anyway, I flatspotted all of them today when someone pulled out in front of me when I had my MAF disconnected (ABS off)
Now the car feels like it's running on square tires
I took the wheels off and inspected them all
The area that skidded is showing a little wear but not much at all
I'd say the wear is less than 0.5mm
I was planning on checking the tire pressures, getting them rebalanced and just leaving it at that, thinking that they'll wear evenly over time
Does that seem ok to everyone else?
Will they wear evenly again, or will they need replacing?

I did the same thing on my 968 Porsche and because it was my cheapy daily driver couldn't bring myself to change the tires. They did get a little better with time but were still inducing a lot of vibration in the car.
On something like your 996TT i would recomend changing so you don't abuse and affect other components plus it would be really unsafe for high speed jaunts.
I'm feelin your pain bro!

This is the fix, and it's fun. Don't waste this opportunity, especially if you're going to replace them anyway...

if the car still drives fine and you only "feel" the little bumping from the flat spots you are ok and it will get better with time. if vibration is a problem or any shimming you make have to bit the bullet and at least get a set of new tires for the front??

I couldn't find anyone in my area that still does shaving.
Does anyone know if there is a shop in Southern Cal that does?

The burn-out solution sounds like fun and due to the potential fun factor needs to be the first line of possible repair. I certainly feel your pain--I'd very recently been away on business for about a month and totally drooling to drive my Turbo.
Pull out of the garage to a thump, thump sound. Find that one of the new fat 19" Pirellis on the rear was flat. Further by the time I had the entire damage examined the tire had a big bolt through it that had hit so hard it cracked and distorted the barrel of the new HRE Monoblock rim the tire was on. I ended up replacing one rim and all four tires. since the car handled horribly with new PS2s on the back and Pirellis on the front. It's amazing how expensive a moment can become. Good luck, my thoughts are with you.

Three are a number of race shops that can shave them down 0.5mm is not that bad of a squaring and they should be able to fix it. I have done the same thing on the cobra (well no ABS) and the burnout thing does work, just don;t screw up and be out a trans and a set of tires.

If you plan to burn them down a few mm, make sure to mask the bumper cover off. The paint does not like all that hot rubber. Also, be ready for a shop to refuse to shave used tires. Many won't do it (us included) because the sand, stones and material imbedded into the rubber is very hard on the shaving equipment blades.

The rear tires are slightly worse than the fronts are, but the fronts could do with a little attention too
Would a burn out work on the front tires or not?
I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to get them spinning?
