996TT 3.8 pistons

the guys that have tried the 3.8 combination with your 996tt and had problems, do you know what mfg. of pistons and cylinder liners they used? any help would be appreciated. Thanks Greg

No worries and best of luck. Find a tuner/engine builder first and see what he/she has used before. You want a proven set up. You don't want to be the "R&D" project for someone either... Going 3.8L isn't as easy as it sounds unfortunately.. Figure out the compression ratio you want to use as well because that can help make your decision on what other parts/Turbos etc.. to go with. Looking back on my build I probably wish I hadn't gone as low as I had because of the lag but then again I knew I'd be using crap gas most of the time;(

I have probably the most powerful 996 3.8 turbo? I have 6000 miles on this motor without any problems! NO PROBLEMS! My car is tuned by Protomotive and built by Noble Performance (Akram) here in the Rocket City. You can PM if you like...

I think Rob has a good engine with 6000 miles. He probably has more experience having one. BBi just finished a 996TT with a 3.8L engine and I drove in it. The redline was awesome at 8500rpm. These guys are from Porsche motorsports team and porsche lemans team. You make the decision and I am not here to tell anyone what to do. Best of luck.

rapidtransit is infamous around these parts
i have 2000 miles on perfect bore 3.8 piston & cyls. no problems . 01 tt 3.8 fvd conversion.

CP Pistons make pistons and you can get great steel liners from Neil at Performance Developments.

I have a spare set of 102 mm pistons if you are interested. I have had just about every manufacturer of 102 mm pistons made. I'm now using 105.7 mm pistons.

Also be aware that many people sell 102 mm pistons as a 3.8 displacement. They are not. With a standard crank throw that is under 3.8L displacement. They just round out to 3.8L. You can get the correct size to get a true 3.8 displacement and have your liners honed accordingly.
