Thanks to Tony@EPL (and Al @ CPT) - another K24/18g car lives!

So, after reading a bunch about turbo upgrades, I decided to take the leap into the K24/18g turbos.

I already had K24s since I have an X50 car so the cost was a bit more reasonable than starting from scratch.

I decided to use EPL as I've had some experience with Tony through the audi community. Kept the stock injectors, put in a 5bar FP as rec by EPL and got their new flash. This is an off the shelf kit. No boost controller.

I had the stuff installed at CPT (Chicago Performance and Tuning) and they did a PERFECT job. Their attention to detail is awesome and Al's service (the owner) was great as usual.

Not sure if anyone recalls my post, but, I did a before dyno where it was revealed my car was chipped. This was confirmed when Tony got the ECU and found a soldered on chip. We are not sure which manufacturer installed it, but it was there.

Anyway, here is a before and after dyno (note: the "before" plot is from when I thought I was stock). This is on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. A stock K16 car put down ~330whp and the same car after a flash and exhaust put down ~380whp. My "before" HP was 418whp (not printed on the dyno plot):

Here is the before and after of boost and a/f:

I picked up the car last PM (live in Chicago) and it was raining and 32F outside (not a good mixture for summer rubber).

I did have a nice opening on the highway and it pulls HARD - until it breaks loose! More to come once it gets dry outside!

I did get a nice 40mile drive to test the drivability - it is PERFECT. Feels completely stock until you hit the gas.

I need to find an exhaust as I'm running test pipes currently and it's a "bit" loud.

Anyway, my experience with EPL was awesome. Tony is a class act, readily available for questions.

I can't wait for the roads to dry out. I wasn't planning on driving it much in the winter as i still have my S4 with winter rubber for that. But, this might have just put me over the edge - I think I need some winter rubber

Thanks again Tony and Al - nice work.

Jason,

I am still debating between k16/16g and k24/18g. Seems like for about $2500 less..you can get the same power...not sure if this is proven. I personally would be very happy with 500 -550 whp on pump gas.

Any insight?

If your looking for pull after pull 500+ whp's with the ability to push slightly harder on race gas. I would highly recommend the k24/18's.

We have a full upgrade path from 550 crank hps to 700+ crank hps utilizing the k24/18's.

Shoot me a pm if you would like to discuss further.

True, sort of. 18G's will make power longer and likely more torgue. 16G's will still run out of breath on the big end, if your'e a highway guy. If you just like "light to light" playing or track your car, 16G is the way to go...although there really is no difference in drivablity. Best thing is to get a ride in both.

Tell Tony what you want and he'll guide you towards the light...

Tony - my first pull was 512whp.

How could you possibly design software that looses an enitre 1 HP between pulls?

You really must get on the ball
