why do you guys seem to make such a big deal about the X50? The k24 turbos are available for 1500 used and 2300 brand new these days. I dont see a point of paying huge premium on this especially when you are going to mod your car anyway.

Regardless of how much the parts cost these days, the option added almost $18k to the sticker price so it has a bit of an impact on resale value. Same principal as having a real LS6 454 Chevelle vs a small block Chevelle with a new crate motor

2003 996tt x50

I picked up at a local Chevy dealer in So FL. The owner traded it in for a Z06.

They didn't know what they got. I had the car checked out at Champion Motors in Pompano.

X50 also comes w/ intercoolers and ecu. Not just K24.

Doesn't it also have the $8k ceramic brakes? X50 is definitely a resale homerun with all these options.

Congrats on the great price.

I nearly had a similar deal at a local Chevrolet dealer, a guy traded a 2006 Slate Grey Viper in on a new corvette (why I have no idea) and they nearly gave the car away to me. For some stupid reason I didn't have my Iphone with me to check the stats/prices and told them to hold the car and that I wanted it. They assured me that it was mine. I returned 2 hours later, they up'd the price. DAMN I WAS MAD (but understood).

Ceramic brakes were a separate option not included in X50. X50 has k24 turbos , IC and flash. My point is i wont pay more than 2k premium for this option. The X50 alone was a 17k option. I can buy k24/18g turbos and flash for $3500 these days.

Right. Which is why when I was looking for a 996tt, I purposely looked for a plain jane, no special option car, as I knew I was gonna mod it, thus making the exclusivity a little less desirable to all but the mod hungry.

It makes sense not to mod if you want your money back... i owned a rare 964 that lost all the money on the mods over 35 k + 44 for the car..but it was fun. No one out there had a 6 speed c2 factory wide body..... I could have spent 30 on a new chicks so spend your money on what makes you feel good...some guys spend that on golf in a year so again...at the end of the day it all comes down to knowing you had fun doing it. you may be dead next year.
my 2002 tt with 13k will say stock paid 44,000. my first n last mods k&n filter replaced the bov's, clear bra and k40...good luck

I do not completely agree with this. Ruff for example is a modded car but sells well.

I think that if you do sensible mods, Exhaust, Headers, Flash etc that it potentially adds value to the car.

Any sign of tracking is the killer IMHO. I have modded afe cars in my time. Not Porsche, but other exotics and have always got my money back or in some cases more.

I think for a Porsche TT after 550 - 600hp then the value decreases. Personally I would buy a tastefully modded car, but I would have no interest in a 700-800hp Monster.

The key is that it MUST Look Stock from the outside and the Engine Bay.

Correct!

Also some of us don't plan on going much beyond exhaust, flash and DVs, so starting with an X50 or Turbo S yields lots more bang for the buck on the same mods.

And better resale for a nicely optioned car when/if sale day comes.

1) $40,900
2) Nov 2009
3) 2002 ~50k
4) $49,000 (new salesman at dealership was screwing everything up. But saved me $$ in the end to stop me from walking away.)
5) No warranty (any recommendations on where to shop for one?)

The car is nicely optioned and was well cared for only problem so far is it is missing the wheel lock key called dealer (2 months post sale) and they claimed did not come in car. (help with this would be great too!)
