And I have recently driven other 660hp and 700+ hp 996TTs and could tell I would be bored with that power level in no time..... it is a sickness.

upgrading
their seems to be a wealth of knowledge on this thread. im upgrading my FVD ecu and my K24s to the Protomotive flash and K24/18g setup. FVD sold the previous owner of my car a new ecu. (thats the way they do it) and i dont have the original ecu. can i just send my FVD ecu to Protomotive and have it upgraded ?
thank you,
brian

Yes, they should be able to, and they just need your VIN. I bought a used Stage 3 FVD kit (K24's, sport mufflers and spare ECU). It was actually out of a GT2, I am now using it in my 996TT.

If you do have a different ECU, it has already been coded to your car, so you can just FedEx it to Todd at Proto and let him work his magic.

thanks guys. that FVD stage 3 is the same as what i have. They used to sell the whole new ecu. i dont think that FVD does that anymore. im looking forward to the K24/18g setup that everyone talks about !

That's why their Stage 3 kit was/is $13,000!!!! Imagine, $13K for 2 K24 turbos, 2 sport mufflers and an ECU...
With a little bit of searching, I found all that stuff for $5.5k and just upgraded the K24 with the 18G wheel.

want to know if big difference from stock k16's and if a lot of lag... I have heard from a few that a hybrid k16 is better on a tip because of lag issues... so dont know what to go with..
thanks
thanks

The difference is very significant. I ran a 12.8 60 to 130 while on stock k16's. Now I run low 8's (8.17). They are not laggy coMpared to the 16's. I'm shooting for low 7's with the right tune.

Oh I still think it's the best bang for buck upgrade out there currently. But I am already at 500+ crank hp and will only be adding 100 or so on pump, maybe 125-150 if I put race fuel in.
And I have recently driven other 660hp and 700+ hp 996TTs and could tell I would be bored with that power level in no time..... it is a sickness.

I feel your pain!!

Not trying to hijack a thread here, but there are many threads about this, if you search. There is a negligable "lag" difference, if any, between K16's and 18G's. Whatever lag there might be, it's worth it. This is a video showing a K16/16G car against a K24/18G car starting in 3rd gear (stick) about 50mph or so. Closer car is 16G outside car 18G. Assuming 2 good drivers, the 16G car gets the nod by so little that it likely doesn't matter. I don't think it makes a difference if you're Tip or Stick, it builds boost the same, maybe a little better with Tip?

I did the exact same thing. Just a little common sense and effort and I saved a ton of $$. I love my 18g's! Now I have to get some race gas.

Vi-Pec. An new ECU (I believe produced in South America) that falls somewhere between AEM and Motec. Seems to be more feature rich than the AEM (and uses more reliable components), but doesn't have all the advanced features of a loadd M800. Price point is between the two. It's up and coming so you'll probably hear more about it in the future.
