Angry Steering wheel alignment

Every time I go to my alignment workshop, my steering wheel is pointing slightly off center to the right (1-2cm’s) after all is done. Too little to adjust it via one notch readjustment on the steering itself.

They center the steering wheel and they do fix it (in the center position via device which hooks the steering wheel and braces itself into the driver’s seat), however after they finish, and all the read outs are correct, my steering is still “pissed”.

I then come back and they keep on readjusting the steering column ever so slightly “cheating” to get it dead center. By doing so I believe car alignment goes out again?

Anyone had this? Is there a trick? Any way to prevent this?

I read somewhere that steering column has a screw hole where you screw a screw in, to fix steering at the dead center position, can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

Unless the people you are having do the work have a PIWIS or PST2 there is no way for them to know what is zero degrees on the steering. In fact the steering angle can only be determined by these two computers and allow the alignment and angle to the sensors to be correct. There is no screw that I am aware of but the PIWIS will sure tell you if you are dead on.

I had my car aligned two times by Pcar dealers and my steering wheel was pointed slightly to the left and my car was going slightly to the right. Most of them BS and said the Calif. roads are sloped to the right (they are but not enough to make the car pulled right all the time).

I finally had my car aligned by a race shop. The guy tuned the car by experience (off spec a little). My steering wheel is pointing straight and the car is going straight as an arrow.

BTW, the race shop guy didn't touch the steering column.

That is the problem is you can still have a monkey at the dealer that doesn't know anything doing the work. Just cuz they have the lil Porsche patch on their shirt doesn't mean that there is any history behind it for that particular person.

I don't have anything against Pcar dealer mechanics. My point was "on spec" may not work for all cars. The race shop guy told me if he put the car "on spec", my car would pull to the right.
