If you have owned an SL55 and a 996TT....

If you have owned either of the above or, preferably both, what are your opinions? I am moving on from my e46 M3 and I would like to find a new daily. I've narrowed my choices down to either a 03/04 SL55 with around 50k or a 01/02/03 996TT coupe with around 50k-60k. The SL will run me around 34 and the porsche will run closer to 40. I have put in a great deal of thought and am still right where I started. which is the better buy for the money?

Be biased, please.

How old are you?
If the answer is older than 67yo, get the SL, otherwise get the TT.

I'm still young, but the retractable hardtop is so tempting

They are quite different cars IMHO. If you're wanting a convertible that badly, sounds like the SL55 might be the right choice. I see this as a fundamental choice between a sporty touring car and a sports car. Good luck!

I suppose I would be better off asking for any negative feedback about either car...

I love 6speed. two responses in the first 20 mins. Thanks!

The SL is a fun car, but the 996tt is a monster. The additional seats the turbo has is a real plus. Despite the SL being an AMG i dont think it has the road presence a turbo has. But no doubt about it the SL will be more reliable and cost less to maintain with that 100k warranty. But imo you are looking at to great cars to compare, i am going to be buying a 996tt in the near future and i was debating between the sl55 and tt.

I had an SL and now I have th 996 TT Cabrio , The Sl is a much better daily driver and touring car. Service costs are non existant an car is very well built , the 996 is much more of a sports car with all the feel to it I think its in the very edge of the daily driver to the not confortable at all to be a DD.

For Fun , Speed , Control the TT is better
For Luxury , low cost service , nice convertible , functionality the SL is better as well as range and gas milage

ps This comes from a guy who thought that could have a Murcielago for a daily driver , ha ha...
