Do I need an oil change after 500 miles on rebuilt engine?

To clarify my previous post (see below), after the dealer did the top end engine rebuild, they changed oil/filter. Do I need to change the oil AGAIN now that I have driven 500 miles? In my previous post I think some people understood that the oil/filter wasnt changes as part of the rebuild but I wanted to clarify that it was changed. I don't exactly have $100 bills burning my pocket so just wanted to make sure it is not overkill.

Write-up on my '01 996TT engine rebuild (under CPO)

I would. What's $100 compared to what you spent already

+1. If it were I, at 500, 1500, and perhaps 3k. Sure, overkill...but just the way I'd do it.

I am that way with my car. New custom DAS tranny...got a fluid change....500 mi in.

Can you explain me the rationale?

I'm not sure what answer you want...you have posted this question on multiple forums...many of us have responded with our answers...that is we would change the oil and filter... I recommend you cut the filter open to look for particles/contamination, also inspect the oil. You keep asking the question....are you just waiting to find someone that says you don't need to do this? Then why are you asking?

ABSOLUTELY CHANGE THE OIL! For godsakes, how much did you spend on the motor build? $100 bucks for an oil change is a drop in the bucket compared to the damage that might occur from light metal pieces in the motor. Just change the oil. If you cant afford the oil change, I would suggest a different car. No offense intended.

All right got it. The reason why I keep asking is a)no one has given me a solid rationale for why oil change is needed (light metal pieces normal after rebuild I guess), and b)dealer never indicated it was needed, and c)from the original responses it appeared some people might have understood that oil/filter werent replaced after rebuild. Thanks
