New DGI Speedtech "silencer" rings Report

So as some of you know, I'm transitioning the 996TT from track day terror back to civility and am trying to quiet the car some. Having been an audio/ sound recording engineer in a previous life, I'm picky. One of the things I loved about the Speedtech was how quiet it was when compared to other aftermarket systems. So when John D. offered to send me some new steel inserts to quiet the car for longer trips, I said "sure thing"...

They work. They change the pitch of the exhaust. That said, My car has been worked on so much, and has a stiff enough suspension that I'm still getting lots of buzz from heat shields and other "stuff". I plan to isolate the buzzing and also instal some dynomat in the rear interior over the coming weeks, but that is different from changing the tone of the exhaust. The newer steel rings John sells are a great addition to the exhaust system... I like the fact that I can tack weld the ring to the exhaust pipe so it won't have a chance of working loose!

Thanks John!

Mike

Do you know if this would work on a Speedtech 60 mm system, or is it part of the stock tip assembly? I haven't installed my 60 mm yet so I'm curious as to how all this works. A removable insert sounds like a great idea.

Not a chance. These fit within the 70mm tubing very snug, which is the design.

Mike - You're welcome! I'm sure you will enjoy your cars "new" personality on those daily drives - the 996TT is a great ride, even completely stock.

You shouldn't need them with the 60mm model. The rings turn the 70mm into a 60mm exit, but the 70mm system is still a little louder, even with the reduction (due to the larger tubing throughout the rest of the system). With the 60mm you are in great shape - it's the quietest 996TT aftermarket exhaust that I have heard, but still screams at WOT.

Exactly what I'm looking for, can't wait to light 'em up. Thanks John and thank you for the great service, everything arrived quickly and in excellent shape. The exhaust and wing look amazing.
