Ran a 5.8 second 60-130 this morning!

At 24psi (1.63bar) according to my boost controller my gauge read a max of 1.5bar. I trust the EBC more than I do the dash because its ran straight off my Y-Pipe. Maybe it doesn't have a limit, but I do know I've seen over 1.5 bar and the gauge still read 1.5bar.
I can't wait to have the driftbox on a cold day. I'll be happy with a 6.0 in my 3600lb tank.

Paulie I might need a ride before the end of January to remind me why i'm dumping all this money into my car.

You really do need to give mad props to the Walnut... But seriously a 5.8 is probably a 5.7X. Great run.

You also need to get a damn boost gauge. I want to know what boost you are actually making on the runs. I know Jamie was running 1.5bar or so. You have a smaller turbo and a heavier car so I'm going to guess in the 1.6/1.7bar range. Don't go by what your dash says or what you THINK the boost controller is setup. If I remember correctly you told me your boost controller does not have any way to show the amount of boost its running. I'm not using this to take away from anything because a 5.8 on a stock motor is flying. I'm saying this because your stock motor may not like that amount of boost really well for an extended period of time.
Sean, obviously doesn't sound like your car is running well at whatever boost or fuel you were running. I ran my car in mid 20's and it ran just as smooth as it did mid 80's. If you heard the pinging and kept going for a simple 60-130 time, I give you credit, as you are clearly unstable. Congrats on getting a good time though. But you should be pulling your plugs tonight....

FWIW, my single attempt at a 60-130 was run on VP103 at 1.4 bar. I never ran the GT2 at 1.5 bar. Todd did a couple times on his dyno though.

I am 100% beside you on the fact that the car is not running well because of the detonation/pinging he is hearing. Like Jamie my car doesn't have any detonation problems in the 30/40s -> 90s and that's even on high amounts of boost. I'd seriously have Tommy take a look at your plugs when he gets a chance. I know you're always worried about the thing blowing up. Try to get an A/F gauge and boost gauge in the car so you can actually have a real reading of what is going on.

Might have been a good idea to get validated before posting--there have been many requests on that precise topic. If it is note done correctly to an accepted standard these numbers are as meaningless as many Dyno numbers bantered around.

Just changed the plugs, Jamie, I called Todd to try and find out what the prob might be. I put in 3 gallons of pump yesterday but the gas guage didn't register anything. I drove about 20 miles and then added the 5 gallons of race after. Maybe I had more pump gas than the gauge indicated and that was the problem.
As to being crazy (unstable) maybe just a bit. I have been wanting a sub 6 second time for a long time now. I admit that I was risking a $20 plus K engine rebuild to beat your time (5.93). But that is nothing. I am a bit obsessive somethimes when it comes to goals. I risked my life (went straight from the hospital...docs tried to 51/50 me) to a bodybuilding comp one time. On another occasion I fought 2 more matches after having my leg broken in a Grappling tourney. The pisser was I lost in the finals
I am parking the car in the Garage and going to a self help/12 step group tonight, so the world should be safe for a while.

Take a close pic of the plugs (showing electrode from tip down) and post them. I'd be interested to see if in fact you were detonating.
Rather than short cut octane, you ever consider just putting in another pail of race gas to be safe? You will be kicking yourself if you hurt your motor over $60....

At this point Jamie I am just going to let the car sit for a few days. Tommy just installed the plugs 2 weeks ago. You are right I should have put some more race gas in. In the meantime I will try and get the new clutch installed on my M3...SMG is presenting challenges.
Time to chill, concentrate on my new semester and count my blessings.

Congrats.. But PLEASE do not rust that gauge.... you may be running 1.7 or higher and you dont even know... you need a guage like NOW..... as well as a AFR meter if you do not... don't hurt that motor trying to be a hero....
BTW, the stuttering could have been ur plugs as well... dont you have a EBC? like a greddy? that would tell you the last boost..
