Two questions...
1)Is the mechanic from Greece?
2)How did the lifter auto-repaired?

- Hmmm...not sure where Jimmy is from but he did work with Ruf and grew up fixing Porsches ever since he was 15, or something like that.

- I'm not sure but I was explained they get "stuck", very rare, especially with only 27K miles on the clock, but they do. Many miata guys suffer from this as well but only during high mileage. But for sure this was a unique and odd circumstance as the oil was just changed only 1000 miles ago. So your guess is as good as mine. I'm just glad in turned out to be for the better.

For those who want to be extra precautionary, Jimmy recommended some of these Liqui Moly products:

Sometimes the lifters get a little air inside.......this is possible if engine is shut up with extreme hot oil and stand a long time without use........
in this case the lifter need little time and the airbubble inside the lifter goes out by hot oil and engine after a while during higher rpm....

colorinc: How much boost and/or awhp|rwhp can a stock bottom end 996TT take on 93 octane w/o potential rod/catastrophic failure?

OP: Great info, thanks for sharing; i'm happy that everything worked out for you.

Here in MD all they offer for premium is 93; I can also get Sunoco GT100 at the pump in our area; so that would def be a good option for me. I was going to go with either a UMW or EPL tune. Does anyone run E85 on stock twins? So basically 15lbs of boost, i'm not use to the "bar" measurement table?

yeah 1 bar is around 15lbs... i run sunoco 100 sometimes (its the only stuff available at the cottage) i have taken it to 1.3 bar (19lbs) several times with out any detonation... the one fuel my car does not like is the sunoco supreme 114 leaded it acts real crazy under load... tim
