You are better off with taking a chance getting caught with a laser jammer which is just an infraction than getting a large ticket for speeding way over the limit. Even if you are caught with four or more laser jammers, it is just a misdemeanor.

(Also available from http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/)

Jamming: Electronic Speed-Measuring Devices

28150. (a) No vehicle shall be equipped with any device that is designed for, or is capable of, jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.

(b) No person shall use, buy, possess, manufacture, sell, or otherwise distribute any device that is designed for jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.

(c) Except as provided in subdivision (d), a violation of subdivision (a) or (b) is an infraction.

(d) When a person possesses four or more devices in violation of subdivision (b), the person is guilty of a misdemeanor.

(e) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person who has a valid federal license for operating the devices described in this section may transport one or more of those devices if the license is carried in the vehicle transporting the device at all times when the device is being transported.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 493, Stats. 1998. Effective January 1, 1999.

The can set the radar to track either the fastest target or the closest one... if you are in a pack or moving through traffic, they visually ID you as the fastest car, then the radar locks on the fastest of all the cars- you.

They can also simply lie and say you were the only car and he had a clean lock on you...

If you walk into court and say (along with the witness) "I was going with the traffic at 80", you can stop right there and pay the ticket.

I'd fight it to see if you can weasel out... but in the end try and get traffic school.

If I was you I'd take it easy for awhile. That doesn't help your current situation, but just a thought for the future. Good luck with your current case. Like Ard said, if you say you were going one mile an hour over the limit the judge will find you guilty.

Im on the other coast, but have used Valentine 1's faithfully without any tickets for a few years now. Hardwired to the auxilary phone harness in the center console ahead of the shifter. Wires are then run under the dash towards the drivers side, up the main pillar and then it goes between the windshield and the trim all the way over to the rear view mirror. Took about 1 hour max to do it. Valentine has a hard wire kit that I belive came with each radar detector. Valentine also uses telephone cords with the snap in connectors which makes things easy to go pick the correct length to run it the way you wish. No tickets. V1 sees laser if it is taking place ahead of you. i always pay attention to the lasar warnings!!

Not true. Laser is collimated (ie tightly focused) and the only time a police Lidar unit will set it off is if the laser hits you- he may not get a lock, or he may just be adjusting aim, but you do not get the "lidar in use up ahead" that Radar gives you.

You need a jammer to be safe, a V1 won't cut it with laser. You are usually dead if you see laser on the V1.

Laser is only tightly focused at ranges so close that you would see the cop first. At 1000 feet away, the beam of a lidar gun is 36 inches or 3 feet wide. At 2000 feet, the beam of a lidar gun is 72 inches or 6 feet wide. You shouldn't depend solely on a radar/laser detector to prevent you from getting a laser ticket, you need a good laser jammer to be almost 100% safe. Most cops don't use a tripod with their lidar gun so the beam will be between 3-6 feet wide in the normal shooting range shaking around from car to car allowing some people with excellent lidar detectors to have time to slow down.

The Valentine One is the radar/laser detector that will give you the best chance of catching an advanced warning of laser when it is shot in your direction whether it is at your car or one around you.

Check out this video of the Valentine One and how sensitive it is to laser even when it is not even close to being a direct hit and when the V1 is under a towel.

Some videos of the V1 picking up laser scatter from other vehicles ahead of it being shot with laser.

Notice how the V1 alerts multiple times to laser scatter before the Blinder laser jammer goes off because it is being targeted directly.

The V1 continues to alert to laser scatter giving the driver time to slow down before the vehicle is hit by the lidar gun.

Here is an old laser detection test to see if a vehicle with a Valentine One could slow down to 30 mph or slower when it is hit directly with laser while going 45 mph. The driver was able to slow down between 10-11 mph average before the laser gun got a speed reading.
