I'm actually curious to try to see if the Durametric cable will work with any of the free software.

When I saw this thread, I was pretty pumped thinking that I could use our Porsche Durametric Pro version on BMW's... Having been in this business for tooooo long and knowing how things go when it comes to diag. tools, I contacted my man Owen at Durametric and this is what he reported back...:
Hello Brian,
Thanks for contacting us. The diagnostic tool for BMW is available through a different company name, Bavarian Technic (www.bavariantechnic.com). The product was released ~2 weeks ago as an “early release” version. The tool works very similar to the Durametric tool for Porsche, though it uses a completely separate software program and its own cables designed specifically for BMW cars. The software and cables will not work with your Porsche tool, though they can co-exist on the same computer.
Please check the web site, www.bavariantechnic.com for more details on the kit. The site also lists current vehicle coverage (focus on late models), along with purchase options.
If you have any other questions, or would like to discuss further, please contact me directly: 888-854-5523.
Best Regards,
Owen Sutton

I hope this helps some folks out, regards.

I've been using Peake on all my previous bimmers with no problem.
http://www.peakeresearch.com/ I still have the two tools for codes and air bag light. I just need to get another bimmer.
