OT: How to use V1 in town
I just got my V1 and took a drive around the local area... I was surprised to see how many alerts I received, and how many bogies it counted. All, as far as I could tell, were "false" alarms (i.e., not police radar). There were so many, in fact, that I'm not sure that it is useful in town in the full alert mode. What mode do you guys use in town? Logic? Advanced Logic?

I am in a rural area so I have never taken it off full alert mode. I believe you push and hold the button to switch. I would probably try the Logic first and then eventually move to Advanced Logic if that is still giving too many falses.
Not much help, but it really boils down to how much noise you are willing to deal with and getting to know when a signal is real and when it is a false based on experience with the unit.

If advanced logic still lets too many false X band alerts through you can go to the V1 website and learn how to program the unit to ignore X band altogather. Dont do this if your local police use X band but few still use it. Almost every dept in Texas has gone to K or Ka band.

i use L. I learn to completely ignore X band. I've never ran into a cop using it. But I also don't have a hard time telling the difference between a cop and something else. When it's a cop the detector is pretty good at telling you as the strength of a cops signal is usually pretty strong.

It is going to take a little practice. In my area the side arrows are usually business burglar alarm detectors. You will get use to the sound of false alarms and real detectors. You can really tell the difference in sound. I Calif. the mobile CHP units have a very distinct sound. I have found in towns, you have best slow down anyway. Not exactly the place to be speeding. On the highway, if you get a reading, caution is advised as it can be an instant on unit being used well ahead or simply a unit operating in the area. If you see side signals after the initial alert, then you have usually passed a business alarm system. Again, find an area where you know there is radar being used and listen, the sound is unmistakable. Once you hear it you will know what I mean.

FWIW, I used the small L (logic) mode today and it worked quite well. Fewer false alarms. And, it did alert me to a photo radar van. My previous detector, a new Solo II, never once alerted me to a photo radar van - not even when you were right on it. The V1 gives enough warning of the photo radar van to allow you to slow sufficiently. Very helpful in Scottsdale/Paradise Valley - land of the photo radar van. I pass at least 1-2 photo radar vans a week.
The all bogeys mode was quite frankly just too noisy. I couldn't drive a block without 3-4 bogeys. If an actual radar trap were in the area, I don't think that I could possibly pick up on it.
Scottsdale has turned into the most aggressive speed trap I have ever witnessed in 25+ years of driving. There are radar traps everywhere you look. You are given very little leeway, so even driving with the flow of traffic is risky. I suspect that in a few years, there will be a successful grassroots revolt against the current speed trap mentality. Once everyone has exhausted their one traffic school date and their insurance shoots through the roof, things will likely change. In the meantime, I plan to ratchet up my own counter measures.
Next up is the Lidatek, on order now.

I've had a V1 and I always use advanced logic mode. The other two modes really pick up everything.
Even in Advanced logic mode if your in a city atmosphere it's gonna go off no matter what, there are just too many false triggers (i.e. door operners, door alarms, security systems).
I've never had any decreased sensitivity to actual police Lidar while using advanced logic mode.
Even if it is a false alarm (i.e. door operner, etc...), the signal doesn't show up stong and passes quick.
