What what you have bought instead of the 996 tt ?

My story of when I bought the car is on here somewhere... But I was looking at three cars... Two of them were within driving distance, and one was within flying distance.
First was a 2007 Yellow Chevy Z06 with 1800 miles on it. It had the 2LZ package. It was in Harrisonburg, Va.
Then I found what was described as a "modified" GT2 an hour away at the local (former) porsche (now BMW) dealership in Charlottesville, Va.
Third was a 2005 Blue Viper GTS coupe. It was located in Florida.
They were all within $10K of each other price wise.
My mistake was calling my buddy Jim McNemar up and telling him I was going to go check the two local to me out. He knew the sales rep at the Porsche dealer well, as he'd bought his 2005 GT3 there... So he suggested we check out the Porsche first.
NEVER go "test drive" a modified car.
It was NOT a GT2. It was a 996TT with a GT2 wing and dyno sheets that showed 510WHP and 530#ft of torque. It also had a folder 2 inches thick with all the receipts for all the suspension/motor/interior/other mods, to the tune of about $25K worth.
I never left the Porsche dealership.

I was thinking of buying my father in-law's 04' 996 40th Ann. model.... until his motor blew up sitting at a red light. The intermediate shaft let go. I guess it's a somewhat common failure on 996 NA. Worked out great for me... found a 01' TT with 7k miles on it in immaculate cond.

I would have considerred a Jag XKR accept I wanted a standard tranny. I also thought about a Masserati Quatroporte or GT.
I can't wait to try out a Lotus Evora. I think it would have had the most potential to sway me from a 996TT if it was available at the time.

Add me to the list. 996 GT3. Also considered Nobel M400 (rode in one and it was crazy fast) and Z06 but never had a chance to test drive it. I drove 5 996TTs and 1 996GT3 before ended up in a white one in the picture.
Now I'm considering it again since prices are sooo sweet and my brother wants my GT3. Leaning towards 6GT2 but I don't know yet.

I needed:
service almost anywhere
decent reliability and a cult following (so parts and problems would be well sorted)
good looks
room in the back for small kids
awd as I use the car in snow and rain
less flash than max...I like to fly under the radar
Only a few cars met my needs...only one had awd. RS4. AMG xyz....no awd and no resale value held. It is 6 years old now and with an ecu tune and suspension will run with 99.9999% of the performance cars out there. Amazing if you think about it.
996TT
(or 993TT)
That's it.
