FAST convertibles .. i know, i know, wrong forum
but it's lonely in the Mercedes forum or anywhere else. was thinking about either the Turbo cab. (have a TT now and would keep it) or the SL600 Mercedes. i drove the SL600 and it didn't seem that fast, even when i switched off the idiot switch. Car and Driver did a short take on the SL600 and the 0 to 60 was 3.6 seconds with a 1/4 mile of 11.9 sec. just did not seem that fast. does anyone own one? it is my understanding that the SL600 is putting out a lot more horsepower than the advertising suggests, and a lot more than the SL55. i just thought a fast luxury convertible would treat my body well.

i owned 2 sl55's and i have a tt cab now
in a straight line the sl55 will beat the tt cab
once you hit a turn the tt cab kills the sl
if you beat the hell out of your cars DO NOT GET THE SL because it is not made for all around performance, and hard driving.
the tt is a sports car and the sl is a fast luxury car
(this is compared to a normal tt cab without the x-50 package)

the 600, while it has a superior engine to the 55, lacks the other AMG mods like brakes, suspension, etc...
This makes the 600 is a more dangerous car than the 55 because you have all that power (available at a lower RPM) and less control over the car. This spells disaster in a heated driving situation, panic braking, hard corner, etc...
The 65 will be the cat's meow. Endless torque practically from idle, complete with the requisite AMG chassis upgrades.
Since I rarely track my car anymore, I wouldn't hesitate to replace my TT with an SL65. Of course it costs $65K more in base price + $30K dealer markup.
