Ron,
It depends what you mean by stock. The bike comes with two exhaust systems, stock and race. It also comes with two EPROMS, race and stock. I have both race parts on and it sounds amazing!! I don't have any mods planned. It comes modded from the factory!! I took it out for a long ride today and this is what I have to say...................
  • The handling is 10/10 whereas the Duc was about 8/10. This suspesion and geometry is spot on! The front Marzocchi's and rear Ohlins are amazing!! The bike is telepathic!!! I could not imagine a bike handling better than this.
  • Having to limit my shifts to 4000rpms when the redline is up near 13000 SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to break it in properly though!! I can't wait to experience the power band!

Here is a link to the manufacturer's page for the bike:

http://www.mvagusta.com/web-mvagusta/F4-1000_AGO.html

A really cool design aspect of this bike is its ability to eliminate the detrimental effects of engine braking during downshifting.

With a car, matching revs, downshifting and controlled use of engine braking works well for high performance driving. On a bike, however, due to the extreme weight transfer and only two wheels, engine braking can cause uncontrolled lockup of the rear wheel during extreme weight transfers. The load on the rear wheel goes near and sometimes past ZERO!!

So, MV came up with the idea of electronically holding the number 2 cyclinder exhaust valve(s) open to allow the passage of pressure and the reduction of engine braking. Voila!!

Translated, brake hard and downshift into a corner and this bike handles like it is on rails!!!! F_ _ KING COOL!!!!

Ron,
Hmmmmmm. Having never ridden a 999R, I can't answer that. I can say the MV is hands and feet above the 998 though. THat in itself really surprised me. I wouldn't have thought it to be the case with all of the racing done on Ducatis.

Hersh,
Thanks! I have to get down by you guys so you can see it in the flesh.

That sounds really ingenious. Did they patent that idea?
Does it work well in all gears? How about 4-2 or 3-1 in extreme applications?
