The Official 996TT Exhaust Help Thread
Hi guys,
Over the past few days, my Dad and I have been kicking around the idea of putting a new exhaust system on his 2001 996 Turbo; but I've had a hard time finding solid information on aftermarket exhausts for the car. Porsches aren't my area of expertise, but I was told that this would be the best place to get some info.
If you all have any good video clips/photos/links/reviews of your aftermarket 996TT exhaust, feel free to post them in this thread. The help is greatly appreciated!
Some specs of the Porsche in question:
-100% stock
-Silver over black leather
-Brushed aluminum trim
-Alcantra headliner
-10,800 pampered miles

As far as price is concerned, we would probably want to stay in the $1,500-1,800 range. I know that this would probably limit us to purchasing used exhausts, but that's just fine.
...and I'm still a < 10 post newbie, so I can't see any signatures, lol.

Shoez,
A new exhaust system on your '01 996 Turbo sounds like a great idea.
Depending on your tastes and who you ask, there are a number of high quality exhaust systems on the market and many comments about them on this informative forum.
I like and get many requests for Cargraphic Exhaust Systems made in Germany. My team has also installed many with outstanding results.
Cargraphic offers a variety of sound levels.
Check them out online, the MP3s are at the bottom right of page:
http://www.cargraphic.de/index.php?/s,6,7,18,717,735/
The MP3's don't do the sound justice - but check them out for reference.
Here are a few as well:
Super Sound Export:
http://www.cargraphic.de/stepone/dat...0/P96TETS1.mp3
TUV Sound Version:
http://www.cargraphic.de/stepone/dat...0/P96TETR5.mp3
Cargraphic also offers Sport Cats and Headers along with a full product line for your turbo.
PM or email me with questions - I'd be happy to help.
Enjoy – Team RSS

I can cover the modified oem version (TJW mod...) and the Switzer system with 200 cell cats.
1. stock exhaust with the TJW mod (holes)...that steering wheel is long gone....wow it looks better now...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZngXA7ibKN8
2. Switzer exhaust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luwxpvdMwY0 (short)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z634tPX6vNM (long....worth waiting)
Woodtster posted on his on track.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGPXlz71Z0k I think his car is at about 40 seconds in. Correct me Woodtster if I am wrong....
At VIR, this got a LOT of compliments. In a paddock full of cup cars, turbos, gt3's, gt2's, etc. It is a sound that is high end NA on the turbo. Not trivial to do.....this, the gmg, and the umw gave (to me) the best "race car" sound.
3. Others to look at:
europipe
speedtech <- probably the best "value" and the 70mm version is fine for high power cars.
gmg
umw
(these were in my final selection...I like fabspeed's modularity too)
Jeff
(running with a Switzer now...it is great)

Great posts, +rep to both of you.

We'd definitely be going for a more aggressive sound, if you're going to drop a few thousand dollars on an exhaust, you might as well get an earful.

I live near Washington, DC and high-end car meets are hard to come by, especially in the winter.

I love(d) my Europipe II Loud that I had on my old turbo.
When you do an exhaust, you will feel night/day difference in throttle response. And you hear the turbo's spool up. I can't even imagine driving a car without an exhaust anymore.
BTW, I think there is already an "official" 996 turbo exhaust thread somewhere on this site. It has been talked about quite often.

All this exhaust talk is getting me excited. Any sound clips of the Europipe?

... went through several systems before settling with this one. In this economy theres really so many options out there for systems in your price range
