West Vancouver cop witnesses Porsche race

WEST Vancouver police seized two Porsches - one of them a 2004 Carrera GT valued at almost a half a million dollars - after a brief road race on the Trans-Canada Highway last Saturday near the Cypress Bowl on-ramp. According to West Vancouver Police Department Sgt. Paul Skelton, a 41-year-old Vancouver man driving the Carrera and a 37-year-old West Vancouver man driving a 1995 Porsche 911 CVT received 15-day driving prohibitions and lost the use of their cars for 48 hours. Skelton said officers were conducting radar enforcement in the westbound lanes of the highway when they clocked the Carrera travelling 125 km/h and saw the car cut off another vehicle travelling at a much slower speed. Skelton said one of the officers was trying to catch up to the Carrera with his vehicle's emergency equipment activated when the Porsche 911 entered the highway from the Westmount on-ramp. "The second Porsche tried to keep pace with the Carrera at speeds of about 165 km/h," Skelton said, "but the Carrera accelerated to a speed of about 200 km/h." The officer was able to pull the Carrera over when it slowed down to negotiate a sharp corner near the Caulfeild exit, Skelton said, and the officer flagged down the driver of the 911 moments later. The driver of the Carrera was issued tickets for excessive speeding and making an unsafe lane change. The driver of the 911 was ticketed for excessive speeding and failing to produce a driver's licence. Police refused to release their names, stating that doing so would contravene the privacy act. Skelton said the incident is under investigation.

200Km/h? Must have been an off day.
That GT must have been observing the break-in procedures too literally. Don't we all do 125m/h in any given tunnel during any given day within any given city limit?
