Oh yeah, then get ready for consumer credit card debt, which is unsecured.. Fun times indeed.
thanks, but i do have to disagree a little w/ the commerical real estate comments. I think you are placing all commerical real estate under the same roof (no pun intended). retail has gotten crushed, and office is next, but healthcare real estate and apartments should do very well relative to the current environment. consumer credit carddebt is going to sting too, but with an average of $8,400 per household, i'm still not sure how much of an impact this will have. heck the debt for the creditors is what scares me on credit cards, not the borrowers.

i'm going to sit tight and ride this out, i had a good sum in the market that has gotten whacked, but i have a large account i kept in cash all year, hoping to make up my losses and jump on a 996tt when i come across the right oppurtunity.

thanks for everyones comments.

A used 996tt is a depreciating asset and although I agree again about timing any bottom, prices on these cars will drop greater than 'normal" in the next 6 months. Too much pain not yet uncovered. Guys, we are in a depression. Right now.

Any of the obvious throw a dart at it short trades notwithstanding, if you just went long any of the proshare ultrashort etf's over the past 6-12 months, you could buy one GT2 with the profits. One of each color that is. Remember, you can ALWAYS make money in equities
But for us "normal" guys who just like to buy and hold, my portfolio in stocks has lost nearly 50% of its value (fortunately my real estate, believe it or not has held steady...of course I have been doing real estate for 20 plus years). My M3 which cost me 52K last year is still worth about 47K and has brought me way more than 5K in fun/pleasure. Now is the time to buy if you have cash.

I think the bottom is nearing. I've been tracking 996TT prices for almost 4 years now and it's been steadily dropping. Over the past 4 years it seems like the car has been dropping 5k a year. Right now it seems like decent stock ones can be had for in the low-mid 40k range. You can get them in the mid-high 30k range but those have stories. I think the bottom will hit when you can find many examples of clean ones in the high 30k range. In the current state of the economy I say that may happen within 2 years or less. Maybe the bottom will hit when the next gen TT comes out. There is no way that a clean 996TT can be had for in the low 30k range, it's not gonna happen.

I'll be looking for a clean mildly modded 996TT when I can get it for 40k. That may be a stretch now but I can wait. I'm still enjoying my car.

Just do it .... already. Life is short, play hard. Watch out for the modified ones. They quite often are driven very hard. Sometimes you can get lucky and find one with mods and in good condition. But just do it, already.

I too am in the position to buy. For many of you who believe this is the bottom, I think you are mistaken. With more job losses, more cars go for sale or do not get bought. Look at the 997tt, you can find them for $75k now for an 07. Last year this was unheard of. I seem some guys selling 996tt's for circa 55k-65K and for $10-15 more, a 997TT can be obtained. an 01 with 38k is going for $42k. Just checked KBB and right now, for luxury cars (other than true enthusiasts) no one is paying KBB suggested. The car imho should have a floor of $35k as long as Porsche doesnt make a new 997TT in enormouos quantitiy. Our economy is very unique and platoued, therefore its hard to determine a true floor.

For those who are willing to let go in low 40's, please Pm me

Please.... nothing is near the bottom yet.... RE, the economy, high end car prices, etc.... nothing has bottomed yet.

And Dr Jitsu, I would love to know where this RE you own that has "held steady"..... call me skeptical.

Yeah, um, okay. Maybe with 50k miles or an accident or two.
