996 TT GT2 Etc. Keeping Our Engines Clean
#17
When I picked up my 03 GT2 last January, the engine was still coated in the factory Cosmoline. I was very happy about this and don't plan to touch it. It's there for a reason. Having come from the BMW world of beautiful engines on display under an open hood, I really don't see what the big deal is. When you open the "trunk" on my car all you see, in the words of my daughter, is "junk in the trunk" (She actually thought it was the trunk). To appreciate the 996 GT2 engine, you have to put your ear on the pavement. Needless to say, I haven't been showing the engine off to too many people. Don't get me wrong, The engine in this car is a work of art, and if I had a hydraulic lift in my garage, I would raise the car just to show it to everyone. But the way things stand right now, it's not worth it to lose sleep over a part of the car which doesn't see the light of day.
I do have to admit, that once in a while I do lift the rear end of the car on ramps and perform a "housecleaning" on the engine, but I also do that for my suspension, wheel wells, and general undercarriage. But that's just me.
