i'm down for some LED's~

 

I recently read an article on an LED conversion on a 997.1 - pretty sure it was this month's Total 911. I remember being shocked at the cost (which was in pounds), probably due to it being a "one-off" project.

 

Im very interested in the replacemen LEDs fixtures. I used them in my 996c2 and they were a HUGE upgrade in the looks.

 

im interested to get one pair, what a differrence...nice upgrade..

 

I've looked into this before and the biggest obstacle your guy will face is the stock lens. If you notice all LED taillights have a clear, non-pattern lens so that the LED's will shine clearly through. The pic below will show what I mean... if you want LED rears, the lens has to be clear (bottom) and not have any patterns (top). The OEM porsche rear lens (on the underside) has patterns which will "muffle" the light output. The only other way I see this being done is someone making a new clear lens and spraying it red.

With that said, anything can be done with skills and $ but just sharing my $0.02.

Evo911 is talking about hacking our already ugly lenses up to put LEDs in the inside and maybe spray painting them. I wouldn't spend a dime for that and those LEDs would only look different when they are on.

We need a replacement fixture like the 996 narrow body has- that is a total facelift for the rear end.

 

Yep, that's my whole point. Putting LED's inside the stock housing without changing the lens will not work

when people are going see my tail lights I can care less if they are tinted, led or stock

I'm in on those LED Tails if they ever come out.

You were looking at doing it before Edwin, why didn't it go through?

 

I would not go with the existing housing, I'm truly lost if they can do this for a narrowbody, why cant somebody simply replicate for a widebody ??????????????

 

We did look into it but our supplier for the 996 NB lights did some shady dealings behind our back and we decided not to deal with them anymore.
