Alternator died - 55K mi.

Has anyone else had an alternator go bad as early as 55Kmi. Mine died last week suddenly... I thought I could make it home (20Mi) but got half way and things started shutting down starting with the ABS, then limp mode, then total shut down. $800 later and it's good to go.

Mine's an 02 w/ 38k on it. I took possession @ 36k. So far I've replaced the battery (7yrs old, it's expected. Most batteries only have a life of 5yrs).. And then the other night my fuel pump went and it's being replaced now.

PeterK is infamous around these parts
The $800 charge was a ripoff. You can get one from Autozone for 1/4 of that price and labor is only ~$100.
