01 996TT (SPI 700) or 08 ZO6 (KatechStage 1)

Simple question 01 996TT with 70,000 mile and a SPI 700 kit or a new 08 Z06 less than 10 miles and a Katech Stage 1 kit (cam, intake, tune etc). Which car is better?

The guys at work are saying that a ZO6 is a step down from my 01 996TT with 70,000 miles on her. What do you guys think? The question is simple new 08 ZO6 with Katech stage 1 or a 01 996TT with a SPI 700 kit with 70,000 miles? Let me know, we have a little office bet on this.

Sorry, a Porsche is a Porsche. As good as the Z is performance-wise, it will never touch how special it is to own what is arguably the supercar bargain of the century. 70k miles is nothing, and with a 700 kit you should freshen up the bottom-end anyway. It'll be like a new car.

Besides, a 700 kit should absolutely molest (thanks heavycheavy lol) the stage 1 Z.

Better meaning what? The miles on each car makes a huge difference. The TT will be faster, but it has big miles on it. It ain't such a simple question.

A 70k TT vs a brand new Z06? Stock to stock, that's a no brainer to me. The Z06.

But a SPI TT vs a Katech Z06? I'd go with the SPI TT in a heartbeat.

+1 70k is a bit scary.

But so is an LS7 which BTW another gave up the ghost at Roebling road last weekend. I would love to love the Z06's, but the LS7's aren't reliable enough for me.

So I'd take the TT and refresh the bottom end as mentioned, and have no worries.

When I was test driving cars in order to make my decision a couple weeks ago, it was a 40k mile 2001 996TT versus a 30k mile 2007 Z06 and let me tell you, there was no comparison whatsoever. The Porsche is leaps and bounds nicer and much better put together, and the Z06 doesn't offer any real interaction with the driver (relative to the Porsche). I expected a really tough decision and it was easy as pie to go with the 996TT. I shudder to think what a Z06 would feel like with 70k miles on it! Good luck to you!

I have also owned both and although the Z06 is a great piece, it is still just an everyday corvette going down the road. The every day ride and overall drivability is absolutely on the 996tt's side as is the fit and finish in the interior. It is a shame they make an exotic built car look like the run of the mill corvette.

I have owned many Corvettes, (although not any new z06's). While I can appreciate the ferocious power of the new vettes, a vette is a vette. A Porsche is a...well, it's a Porsche... Don't get mad, you ARE on a Porsche forum!!!

I also have both, based on the miles go with the vette...at this point the price is what will be the deciding fact.

Since you already own the 996, and you may have put most of the miles on it, then you know how it was driven and how much abuse it has taken.

That said, I would mod the Porsche(with a fresh engine, if it is within the budget) and be done.

I own a vette, too, and I'd do the 996TT if I had the choice.
