the tranny in the benzo AMGs are 5speed slushboxes, and in the NON amgs are 7 speed slusboxs

all torque converter automatics , like tiptronic, not F1.

Very nice Ormand!

I did the very same thing early this year. I traded my previous 2002 996TT, 6 speed Upsolute (big hit $$$ on the Turbo) for a 2004 SL55 AMG in Pewter Silver. Ironically, I only drove 2800 miles in 11 months =( here in L.A. nearly the same low mileage as you.

I wanted a different experience. My SL55 has close to 550HP/560ft-lbs TQ and is a great convertible GT.

Even though I miss the 996TT, I love the convertible SL55 just as much in a different way. Both vehicles have their advantages and appeal although the SL55 has more pluses for me than the 996TT. I'm definitely seeking a 997TT in the future and most likely, keeping an SL55/65 as well if I can.

Great luxurious vehicle! Amazing technology for it's size and weight!

i hope the the SL55 are getting better...we had a new one in 02-03 (i forgot but it was the FIRST year) first we had a SL 500 and we were SO happay that we took deilvery of that car we didnt have time to chk it out (merc in my area somtimes comes with non factroy paint or many other small defects, so not q control..we are at the mercy of the dealership)

we later found out that the dash had a BIG dump on it...we asked for a new car...they said the best they can do is to pull out the old dash and fit a new one..i still said no and i will never take a car with 1200km with a new dash...(these new cars are complex) at the end i drove the car in the dealership took of my number plates ansd went to the manager office...had a breif LOUD meeting and sold the car back to them at FULL price

but then we got the SL55 if was a headache we drove it till about 36km and sold it...to MANY elect problems..i think that the total warrenty work on it was $13,000...

we LOVE mercedes we have 4 in total and a E55 coming in next month...i think the reason for the headaches is the fact these cars were EARLY 1st year production cars....NEVER again

i hope u get a perfect car

g luck these cars are GREAT or else we woudnt get the E55

but for me at least porsche is number 1
