DIY for Clutch Accumulator W/Pics...
#47
My accumulator loosened on me (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-seal-diy.html), I tightened by hand but plan to use an oil filter strap. Should I replace and bleed, bleed only with existing accumulator, or just tighten and check fluid level without bleeding? Clutch has shown no signs of any problems. Thanks.

Here is how I tie wrapped my coolant lines which provided great access to the CA.
Tightening the CA was still a PITA, I used my hands with rubber gloves (be sure the CA is cleaned, I used brake cleaner on the outside). I couldn't get my 27mm wrench in there and the filter strap didn't seem to do much so I squeezed in a small pair of vice grips (I pre-set the grip to the fitting before I installed).
Lastly I found it easy to use a long universal extension with a 10mm end to get the coolant line bracket screw started, see below.
After following the proper topping off procedure it was done, no leaks. Fairly easy job, I think it took longer to get the car on jack stands and get the wheel off.

Mike,
As always a very informative write up. I've had mine replace once and didn't even know it had failed. Does driving the car with a failed accumulator cause accelerated wear on any other components? When it's time to replace the clutch assembly, I think I'll do the GT2 convertion to get rid of the entire issue in the future.

100% same for me(2003 MY ).Took more time making the tools.
Absolutely no need to bleed. Service manual doesn't call for it either. I pumped 10 or so times. Started car. Let idle for a little bit. Turned off. Clutch was good. Checked levels. All was fine.
The accumulator I pulled off had a 993 starting part number. Probably original.
Much appreciated for this thread and all the others.

No way you're getting a torque wrench on that thing. I went about 1/16th of a turn past hand tight. I loosened it again just to test how tight it was and it took about the same amount of force to loosen as the original did.
