Couple more of the 917-30

figured you guys might want to see a couple without the bodywork...

The big silver **** on the right in the second one is the "boost controller"!!!!
Those guys must have carried their nuts around in wheelbarrows- this car would hit 250mph...look at the seat and notice the lack of most any safety design built in

In the last one, the gold colored "bolts" on the intakes were originally pressure release valves ie bov's...But...they said they couldn't stop them from releasing when the car hit bumps, etc, so the put that one in the back that looks like it is off a dumptruck, and just filled the original holes with the bolts. You can see the BOV in the 3rd pic.

Absolutely amazing what they managed to do with a slide rule and a legal pad. Then again, I guess if I could shove 1600hp into a thousand pound car, it too would be pretty quick! Remember, this was a 7 second quarter mile beast!

And it could run 7 second quarters for at least 2 hours straight!

Another amazing thing is that at that time (circa 1973), top fuel dragsters were not putting out much more horsepower (between 2000 and 2500hp) and could only maintain that performance for a few seconds at a time. Had the Porsche Can Am cars not been regulated out of competiveness, the 1974 car was supposedly closing in on 2000hp.

This car will be at Watkins Glen this weekend for the Donahue tribute. I'm telling you guys, I don't know how those guys drove these things at their limits. That's just flat out scary.

The guy who owns it has one heckuva collection and he's the nicest, most down to earth guy you'd ever meet. I think he is going to open a shop to work on Pcars only. He already has the mechanics and the facility. I am going to introduce him to Todd Knighton- hopefully he will become a Ptotomotice affiliate.

I think there'd be a market for a customer going in to get a set of 24/18's, and while he ws waiting he could dig around this car, or a 962 Lowenbrau, or a GT1, or a 959 or maybe a Marlboro F1!..... talk about a great marketing plan!!!

I saw them race in anger at Road Atlanta in 1973. Donahue made it look easy, which is the "mark" (pun intended I guess) of a great driver I suppose.
