You are planning a motor build and GT 30's? An argument can be made for doing a car like Todds w/ a tip, but if you are going all out (GT 30 plus and motor build...an eventual 50K project at least) why are you starting w/ a tip?

Dr, Just for my own information. What constitutes a 50k motor build? I was thinking just getting stronger rods and stud bolts will be good enough. Read somewhere that's more like 10K.Please let us know what else goes into a motor build which will let us run the car safely at 800whp levels.

I personally know 4 people who did motor builds. Most of them ended up spending close to 80K by the time everything was done. I say close because Rob spent more....Oh, Scotts' friend Peter probably spent more I am fairly sure since he has McKenzie heads.
What you need to understand is the nearly endless number of things you will have to do along the way. Yes, the basic starting price for a bottom end build is 10K. What about you 50K mile heads that, even if they were new would need to be upgraded to match a built bottom end, for starters.
I have the fastest verified stock bottom end 996 based car on the board (although there are a couple others just as fast as mine on a stock bottom end) and I spent 25K to get there. Ibelieve something like what I have is what you are shooting for (although the tip will keep you a bit behind even w/ a 4K TQ upgrade). My fuel system IC's and tuning were 10K, turbos, headers and everything else (adaptive hardware/fabrication etc) that went with them were 10K.
My clutch was 4K. There is a lot of other small but expensive stuff you will need (intake, both lower and upper) to make everything run together. I am not counting my Europipe exhaust, btw.

If I were in the market for a tip I would buy this car: '02 x50 $45k
I would install 24/18's (car already has upgraded torque converter) and enjoy the car.
Its a steal, IMO.

Boca, when are you going to make up your mind on mods?
I haven't driven the car yet, but when I do, I will update my thread. Should be later this week.

Not sure if the tip can handle all that power. But a Tial GT3071 with injectors is the way i am thinking of going.

At 1bar i should be making the same power of 18g at 1.2 bar.
All i hear are very positive reviews from Audikp who already has it in his car.

blackhorse hard to make up my mind when it seems like almost every other day, someone has something new to say and there are new and different set ups coming to life.. but I know I am held back a degree with a tiptronic.. but I wont go back to a 6 speed car... so it is what it is

I want a tip for the simple fact that I suck at driving stick, (never had a stick car) and dont want to have to worry about a clutch. Also if I have to let someone in my family borrow it they can do so without a problem. I dont think 50k is going to be in my budget, even if it was I would probably not do it. I'm not looking to break records I just want a 650-700 crank hp car that will be reliable and I can enjoy on the weekends. Im a property manager by trade, I have to drive a beater to work because I know people get jealous very quickly.
