Buying a 996tt with tip.

Paulie , The new Tial Gt3071's do spool atleast 500 rpms faster than 18g's - That's per my tuner. Very soon some people on here will post dynos for reference.
You might be talking about the Gt3071 with k24 hot side??
Also posted on another thread by Audikp who is beta testing this turbo for EPL. I will have it in my car in the next few weeks.

Dyno tune will be done after injectors are installed.

GT3071 is a better overall turbo than the 24/18 but it won't spool faster (maybe the same) and is going to be a lot more expensive. Are these the new bolt on GT 30's w/ internal wastegates? They are pricey but still a lot cheaper than going for the full GT 30 package. However I LOVE my external wastegates. I have 3076's.
Wanting a car that is drivable in traffic is a good reason for having a tip. Wanting a tip so that other family members can drive the car is a HUGE mistake, I have seen it made a hundred times. W
When you get over 650 flywheel (580 whp) you really want to go to a triple carbon clutch which is a pain in traffic. Don't listen to people who say they are easy to drive/their grandma can drive it, etc....bull****.
If you want a dd, then a tip w/ a TQ upgrade is a very good choice, but if you have a mon-fri beater and want big power learn to drive the stick. In the long run you will be better off.

Dr. Jitsu,
Thank you for your input. I know what I want is a tip. It takes a while to be a good stick driver and to be able to drive a stick and consistantly beat an automatic will probably take me a few years. Therefore, I am leaning towards a tip. I can consistantly run the same times. I will probably buy some $500 car that is manual just to learn. If I really like manual then I can always trade this one in and swap it for a stick.

Dr,
Yes these are the new Tial GT 3071 turbos from EPL. Actually you will be surprised, they arent that much more than a Full k24/18g Turbos brand new (~$3500 -3800). Plus these are direct bolt on ball bearing turbos with the same cartridges as the Garett , tial casted the hot side and welded the flanges to bolt on.
I cant wait to see the results, the preliminary report from Audikp and my tuner is they spool faster than 18g's. I have driven the 18G cars many times and love them, frankly thought they had no lag! But for a small increment in price just cant pass up a Garett turbo. That way long term i dont ever will have to think about a bigger turbo. My goals are quite simple at this time , to run 550whp on pump gas and 600whp on race gas plus do it safely.
If you say that they spool the same as a 18g, that's good too for a turbo bigger than 18g. I think an 18g is similar in size to a Gt28.
Btw...if you have GT3076 , how the hell did Paulie pull on you or even keep up with you on that highway pull?? .. I am confused , doesnt you car not make over 600whp ?? If i had to guess his car is in the 550 whp range.

I think the OP is referring to direct bolt on Tial GT3071's. So no fab required to bolt on.

I think the point is: you DON'T NEED headers or intercoolers with the Tial 3071's or 3076's. They BOLT RIGHT ON to the factory 996 headers. You only need intercoolers if you go over 600whp or so.
So basically, you can install these Tial turbos with the same supporting mods you would for an 18G project, including some sort of fueling, and make the same power, with less boost, and still have enough turbo for a future engine build. Actually, quite a versatile turbo...

Thanks Man , couldnt explain it better. Btw the OP is planning on custom making his intercoolers. He already makes it for BMW's, nothing different, just need two this time will be way cheaper than blown6 or any others.
Ttboost Congrats on those great numbers, car must be a beast now.. cant wait for Tony to custom tune my car with GT3071's ..

I did somewhat miss the point, thanks. With 10-15K budget, I still found that it will be hard to do either GT30s or the 18g's with all the supporting mods especially for someone not very mechanically sound like me.

Clutchmaster stage4
EPL flash
k24/18g Turbos brand new from Titan
60lb injectors
Labor for clutch and injectors , approx 2k. Turbos install approx $700.
Do the math on the parts it can be done at a good independent shop and a fair priced tuner. Also i have found it best to source my own parts and put it together at my independent shop.

On race gas and 1.5 bars I walked Paulie by about 5 lengths. Where did you hear that he kept up w/ me? I make 680 rwhp at 1.5 on C 16
Todd ran me even, but I was on mostly pump at 1.2 bars and he was at 1.4 bars. My car makes 35 more whp for every .1 bars. won't go above 1.5, however, even on C 16. That is the limit of the bottom end.
A tip w/ headers, 24/18s, injectors, exhaust and the TQ would be a very fast and ddable car and will be absolutely fine on a stock motor if tuned properly and run at boost levels appropriat for the gas you run (1.1 on 93, 1.3 on 104, 1.4 on 109).

Its possible , i know people who have done well under 10k with the following:
Clutchmaster stage4
EPL flash
k24/18g Turbos brand new from Titan
60lb injectors
Labor for clutch and injectors , approx 2k. Turbos install approx $700.
