02 GT2 vs. 07 997 TT: Nearly Same Mileage & Price; Which Do You Choose & Why?

I started looking at Porsches recently and have been seriously considering picking one up in the current market. Initially, I was only looking at the 997 TT, but recently started looking at the 996 GT2 as well. It seems that a low mileage 997 TT coupe / 6-speed is about the same price as some of the low mileage 996 GT2s I have seen advertised on the internet.

I usually modify my cars and drive them about 3K miles per year each, mostly on the street, car meets, shows, etc., but do hit a road course, 1/4 mile, or 60 - 130 event occasionally.

I really have not done a lot of research on these cars so I'm sure I don't know them as well as many of you. I would appreciate your insight and opinions on these cars.

What are the reasons to choose the 996 GT2 over the 997 TT?

What are the reasons to choose the 997 TT over the 996 GT2?

Thanks!

Tough call.

As a 'driver' I would say the 997TT hands down. WAY better interior and more comfy.

The 996 GT2 is an 'instant classic' in my mind and should be used/appreciated differently. For random shows track days car meets etc that is perfect. Just be ready cause these babys are FAST!

Bottom Line: Win-Win

Try them both, and I guess you will make up your mind straight away.

My opionion:

I would never change out my 996 GT2 for a 997TT

As a collectible, the GT2 for sure. if you don't care about that, then whichever you like the looks of best IMO. The current mod list is getting big for the 997tt, so I doubt that a GT2 will have any advantage.

as for interior, I keep on hearing this crap and it is pure BS, the 996tt interior is every bit as nice if not nicer. If anything the one piece dash of the 997 is older looking.

here are both, you decide.

here is a 996TT interior

and here is a 997TT interior

Different but in no way better.

I'd take the 997TT if you want to put miles on it:

Newer (warranty)
Less maintenance costs (newer)
Better interior
More responsive VV turbos
More up to date exterior look

If you want an investment, I'd bypass both for a 3.6 964T.

996 GT2 will retain value, especially if you drive 3k per year. There were only like 500 total made. 997TT will be under 50K in 3 years

plus one on calling bull**** on the 997 interior being better. The GT2 interior is absolutely splendid.

Its more of a collectable, has rwd and none of the safety devices for pansies and Manginis.

However, the 997 does have an advantage in terms of making more power w/ less mods, better stock fuel system etc. If I wanted the newest most powerful car I would lean towrds the 997. If I was willing to spend the money time and heartache to get exactly the car I wanted and then keep it forever, the GT2.

I prefer the GT2 too, my turbo is RWD and I like it much better especially for road course...

Drive them both is my advice.

Personally, I'd probably pick the 997TT because I put a lot of miles on my cars, and because before mods, the interior is much nicer and literally newer. But Prche951 makes a really good case... OTOH, I've never driven a GT2. I'd like to see what RWD on these cars is like.
