Found car need advice
I found a 2001 Turbo 6spd with 26k miles black on black. I have always wanted one of these cars and this one seems to be a good deal. The car is very clean with but pretty base as far as options. We are at 37k. Is this a good deal? The car runs very strong but it does feel a bit bumpy on the highway. It feels like a vibration from the tires needed to be balanced but there is some rash on two of the rims on passenger side. Anyways any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the car has been driven hard. Any documentation? Service records? How many owners? 37 K might be too cheap for a car that needs little work. It may need a lot into it. Tires are probably worn. Get a PPI at a certified Porsche mechanic, will be worth every penny.

Tires are fairly new. He has the reciept from the Porsche dealership where he bought new stock chrome rims and tires about a year ago. He is kind of an family friend so I know alittle about the car. I think hes the second owner and hasnt driven it much. Maybe like 5k in two years since he has a few toys.

Oh geez...family friend. Don't let the issue of "family friend" get in the way of a solid business relationship....have the car inspected by a reputable dealership or independent shop that will give you a good overview of the health of that car. There's a tendency for deals between friends or relatives to be a little "loose" based upon the interpersonal relationship....you're about to put out thousands of dollars...if the car isn't up to expectations, you lose two ways...one is you lose money making it right...two is you lose respect for the individual and the relationship suffers. Take care of yourself first...

Even so, shouldnt be "bumpy" at highway speeds. Should pull smoothly on smooth surfaces way past legal speeds. Maybe suspension needs looked at. Worn suspension can cause a shimmy/bump at higher speeds on uneven tarmac. PPI. Always get a good PPI. My recently departed 964 had a poorly performed PPI, cost me 2500 bucks to make the suspension right, makes you feel foolish you dont spend more time really looking into the problem before you buy. Ends up costing big bucks on the after the fact.

That is a fantastic price. Almost too good, so make sure it checks out. But at that price you should be able to afford to put a few bucks into it getting any kinks worked out. I hope it works out for you, these are great cars.

The car would be a great deal at $35k, if the PPI shows it to be clean. They are bullet proof for the most part but you need to know what you are starting with. I purchased my 01 from a dealer in Houston without seeing it 3 years ago. I had a PPI done, online pictures and a great phone description of it before pulling the trigger. No regrets; love the car.
