Please help me find a rebuilt 996 tiptronic trans
#33
I have been doing a lot of research on the tranny since I have a tiptronic. For the most part this tranny is very strong. I for one always change the ATF in the trans although people/companies say you do not have to. More power=more friction=more heat=quicker break down of ATF. I will probably change my fluid every 30k miles. I also am upgradeing the tq converter and installing an external transcooler with an additional filter. This will help the ATF stay cooler and in the optimal viscosity along with a disposable filter to keep the fluid clean. I also have a gauge to monitor the temps of the trans fluid. I am currently working with a local company to tune the TCU so that we can adjust revs and shifting characteristics.
I also do not plan on launching the car since first gear is where the most amount of stress is put on the transmission. Once rolling the transmission is locked and there is very little stress. For the most part the transmission is very strong but heat dissipation is the killer.

I'm sold on the fact that it was the heat. The EVOMS modified TC doesn't keep the HP from killing the tranny. It does allow a higher RPM launch. I'm going to add a big trans cooler.

We know they can handle 420 at the crank, that's about all the proven HP numbers that I have seen. We'll see how well this rebuild holds up.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I know the 18gs do put out some serious power. That said, I still wish you didn't have to incur the cost of a rebuilt transmission. It's Wednesday, have you gotten your transmission back yet?
