Differences between 996 01- and 02+?

Are there any differences in the Turbo cars in the 996 year variants? I keep reading that the NA cars went from 3.4 to 3.6 but it seems the Turbo remained the same. Is this assumption correct?

TIA

Only difference I can think of is that 02 has a glove compartment and that the wheels are hollow on the 02.

The "warts" are only on some early 2001's so not all 2001's have them - so don't rule them out. I haven't heard much chatter on the boards about cooling problems, so may be a rare thing, but I am not the expert there... I doubt the 2001 is much lighter, but there are no facts about that yet. I doubt the addition of a glove box changed the structure of the car much IMO.

IMO, there are no major differences to rule out the 2001 model. My goal when buying mine, was to get the newest model I could afford... They are used cars and the newer the model, the better IMO.

Just a couple more things I've learned about the '01 model year. They came with FR5 heat range spark plugs, which were replaced by the FR6 heat range for later years (and are said to be needed for ECU flashed cars) -- if the car has at least 30k miles it probably already has had them changed, so probably not a factor. The intercooler hoses were also modified in later years with better "flanges" on the ends to hold better, so if you buy an '01 and add performance mods, might need new intercooler hoses (plus the rubber hoses would be 8 years old by now, so might need changing anyway).

No Bose in '01, and as posted before no glove box, early '01 had front bumper warts and solid spoke wheels, later '01 have no front warts (deleted by option code "059") and hollow spoke wheels. I think '01 and '02 both had the PCM1 Nav unit, replaced by PCM2 in later years.

Thanks a lot Alpha and everyone else. Sounds like 02+ is optimal but 01 isn't out of the question if I find the right one. Thanks again!

I'd be afraid of reaching towards that glove compartment that doesn't exist, and saying to myself Son of a B**ch!

Hey, I also had a Elise and then sold it and got into my 01 Turbo. Like these guys have said, I wouldn't look at the years as much as say, condition, color you want, mileage, mods, etc.

Also, highly recommend you look for one that's nicely modded on this forum versus buying from an unknown. I found my Techart EVOMS GT700 here and couldn't be happier.
