Seeing some crazy predictions on the Corvette C6 Z06!!
#16
Hey Bill!
Yeah, I'm just ready for a change to something a little different, having had so many Vettes myself. Certainly high(er) volume production does mean lots of R&D for the platform, which I don't have to tell you (I've been on the Corvette forums for 5 years, teh Z06 for 2, know you Z07 packaged car well). If the replacement Z06 is as different as DH has alluded, it may be a rare sight too!
I agree that my last two C5's (including my current Z06, reasonably modified) have had -zero- problems, *and* my Z06 has been on track quite a bit (Roebling, Sebring, CMP).
I think "rattling" corvettes became a thing of the past with the introduction of the C5 (I had some C4's that were wet noodles for sure). My C5 Coupe, even with the Z51 suspension and T1 swaybars was totally quiet (umm, after we lubed the squeaky poly-u bushings on the bars).
My current Z06 has no rattles, squeeks, or shakes - the torsion frequency for the fixed roof C5 models is 24Hz which is VERY stout (the coupes are 20.5 roof out, 22 roof in, making it much more rigid with the roof _out_ than many fixed roof sports cars).
I'm almost 104 so most people are quite a bit younger than me, but I see a wide range in the ages of owners in all makes and models - in fact, up in PV, almost *every* P-car I pass is being piloted by a 50+ year old, conservative, investment banker type, yet the few Z06's I see in the St. Augustine area appear to be 25-30 year old owners - go figure!
Cheers!

I owned 3 C5s including one highly modified Z06 and never had any issues with any of them. I am not even close to 55 years old and most of my friends with vettes are younger than me. I will have a C6 Z06 in my garage. I will probably wait for a 2nd year car though.

This is a fairly high production, fairly inexpensive vehicle. It should sell at less than MSRP. Great performance for the money. The build quality of the vette beats the viper hands down. Performance is another story.

Compare that to my 996TT which has been in the shop for a new engine, new PCM, leaky coolant hoses, new oil pressure sender, and about 3 visits for "trim" related issues inside the cabin. That being said, I love my TT more than anything I've ever owned!

I have owned three big block vetts. A 65, 69 and 70 so that is where my experiance lies. I have one bother in law with a C5 and he has had everything break that can. They finally took it back as a lemon and refunded his full purchase price. This did not get him to sell is 65 but it has tested his patience.
I'm glad you other guys have had good luck and like some have said it is a performance bargin. The ZO6 will defiately hang with my TT.

Hahaha!
Just seeing if everyone was paying attention
Reminds me of the time I posted my car weight from a track, I said the car came in at 3088 lbs (listed gear, gas, etc) and with me in it, 3538.
It was about 20 posts later, some guy finally did the math, and in a really PC approach finally asked "Umm, not that it matters, but are your really 450 lbs?"

what cars were built good back then. That's the first time i've heard of a c5 being lemoned, but every make has their lemons.

They claim the C6 is selling well. The dealers won't let them go without a big mark up. The Z06 markup will take that car into 6 figure territory I bet.

If I wanted, I could purchase a C6 for under MSRP within the hour. If you look at the right dealers, you can get a fair discount. If you go to any random dealer along the highway, chances are you will be asked to pay sticker. The markups have drastically subdued since the car actually hit the the market.
As for the Z06, being in the 6 figure range...Not a chance!
