993 TT vs 996 TT
#16
I have owned a 993TT and presently own a 996TT and I think they are both great. The resale advantage IMO is the fact the 993 is the last of the air cooled engines. My bank account tells me I should have kept the 993TT however. And yes the 993TT is AWD as well.

Nice collection there. Must love Black color I know who owned that beast on the right. Congrats!

Not a stupid question at all. I can't speak for the 993tt's 3.6 liter but my 930's 3.3 liter never overheated. This during the hot, very humid summers we have here in the Midwest.

Well, it is not air-cooled like VW engines of the past or modern motorcycle engines. The 993 is cooled by recirculating engine oil through the radiator. In essence the oil is serving as both lubricant and refrigerant.

I'll tell ya why my friend...
1400 made? The number must be much higher Or maybe 1400 shipped to US out of a greater total number?
Why 993TT? Rules of attraction my friend.
I feel the 993TT gives a bigger rush than 996TT (stock vs stock). There is something to old school cars that newer cars lack (If I had the storage space I swear I would have a Golf Mk1 GTI, a Miata, a 964 Porsche or a NSX just for that old car smell and plastic interior feel which I miss these days).
The same goes for BMWs: E30 M3's (first generation of M3's) are jumping up in value (and have been doing so the last 2-3 years) - eventhough the newer M3's are much faster and much more daily driveable.
I also believe that at one point in the "not so far" away future the Ferrari F355 will be worth more than 360 Modena.
I'm only 24 years old, but have a passion for cars much stronger than the average car nut - and I don't mind admitting that they made cars with pride, passion and by pushing boundaries some 15-30 years ago. Today, cars are made for the masses and designed after what we want - nothing epic comes out of what people want!!

First few answers hit it on the head.
1. Fewer supply
2. More importantly- last of the air cooled 911's, purists have never been fond of 996's, and all the ones I know keep their older cars and have skipped straight to 997's as extra cars...

Had both and so different. If you are looking for a pure driving experience, the 993 is hard to beat. If you are looking for fast and luxurious, the 996 is much better. 996 is much larger. 993 is very basic. 993 is raw. 996 is better for a night out with your girlfriend. 993 is better for a night out with the boys.

993TT, 3311 lbs, 400 bhp, 0.33Cd
996TT, 3388 lbs, 420 bhp, 0.31Cd
In stock form close enough that taste is the difference. I would love to own a 993tt. As for looks, I love the 996tt, but the 993tt has got to be one of the sexiest 911's ever made.

I agree with you completely, if I had to money Id do the same, but given my funds, Ill have to wing the 996TT alone. Theres something to the older cars that is just pure and raw. Theres no sound deadening, theres some rattles, you actually FEEL everything. Id love to have a 993TT as well but maybe one day in the future. For 26, owning my own home in NYC and buying a 996TT, I dont think Im doing to bad
