How did you get into your 911 Turbo
#48
I follow Mike's format. I (ok we) used to own a E36 M3 which I bought in 1997 in NYC. Then bought a 2004 E46 M3 convertible since we moved to San Diego, figured hey living in So Cal, you gotta own a convertible once. Fun car and after lots of modding, I got the itch again.
Fast forward to 2008, looking for a 2005 Turbo-S. I decided on 05 since I understood that the S version had overcome the dreaded 1->2 shift pop ups.
My search took me everywhere. Found one in Chicago, with the help of forum member. We had it PPIed at an Indy shop and he informed me that he hears the bearing noise from the engine. Sh$$t, I out $500 (including transport from dealer and back to his shop). Then I located a black turbo-S with 9K in So-Cal MB dealer. Really nice car was asking for 80K, but lowered them to 75K. But then came this all yellow convertible in NJ with only 8K miles. I took the wife and the boyz on a plane since it was Xmas, so figure visit family in NY and check out the car in NJ. Drive up to Princeton, Owner is a dentist and shows me the car in his garage. I had specifically asked the guy (in reality his assistant) if the car has been in accident and CLEAR AS THE DAY NOOOO. What do I see repainted driver side door, he even admits that his son-in-law ran into the car with his Jeep. So can I test drive the car? NOOOO, He can start the car but no driving..
I am like sure I take it, he is like leave a $10K deposit. He is still waiting.
Back to San Diego, all but given up on the car, good thing too as recession has hit our industry (hi-tech) really bad. Then comes this evil forum and some idiot (good friend w/ a 993) that points out this GT800 car which started life as a 2005 Turbo-S. This is James Wong's car done by Alex@SharkWerks and EVO. Fly to San Fran, meet James, instant connection. Good guy and straight forward. I sell the kids on Ebay, collect enough money and send him a wire.
And as they say the rest is history. Oh to calm the wife down, I gotta do something, and this is the only thing that comes to mind
