Strange Sound after LWFW

Strange Sound after LWFW
As many of you know, I just did a bunch of upgrades.
I was expecting some light clattering from the Aasco flywheel. But my car has a weird sound from 2-3K RPM under load in any gear. It sounds like SHHHHHHH.... and sounds like driveline whine. It goes away entirely after 3K rpm.
Speed Gallery replaced the TO bearing and disc (for good measure) under warranty, but the sound continues...
Is this also the LWFW? The drone from the exhaust is bad enough. This is not a sacrifice I want to live with.

Ari,
The LWF does make a straining sound at low RPM under load, until things get going - I didn't think it did it until 3000 RPM's, but somewhere between 2-3K. This is in addition to the clanging at idle - it's a different type of sound and is induced by low RPM load.

Ari, I am not a fan of the LWF for daily driver use. I think it performs great, but personally, I find the noises associated with it very annoying and bothersome...to the point where I removed a perfectly good LWF clutch set-up after only a month or so, soley for noise concerns. I was very pleased to go back to the DMF.
I know what you need, should you decide to re-do your clutch. You can PM me and I will give you all the information for a smooth, noise-free, high clamp clutch package that will hold 700 HP.

That's funny, John. The sound of the LWFW doesn't bother me at all. But then again I'm the guy heel/toe shifting everywhere, which makes enjoying that LWFW that much more fun!
Ari, The noise will die down on that "under load" side of the coin... It'll get louder over time with the Clutch out and idling side...

Listen to Mike Ari. So many guys have come on and said they didn't know what the big deal was all about with the chatter......right after they installed it. Wait a month or two...it will be there. Almost sounds like a diesel at idle with AC on. If the noise at 2-3K is killing you now, you'll be on suicide watch within 60 days over the chatter issue

Thanks guys.
The LWFW is coming out tomorrow. It revs quicker, but it's not any faster and it's no fun to drive in traffic. The clutch engagement point is really high also. Taking off from a stop takes too much concentration.
Will I be able to use the rest of the clutch stuff?
John, PM sent...
is this no good? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SACHS...Q5fAccessories

Ari,
You want the Sachs stuff like in the ebay link, however, there are no part numbers listed. Make sure you are getting the proper Sachs Motorsport "999" pressure plate. Also, I would go with the Sachs Motorsport unsprung GT2 style race disc. It's lighter, has less rotating mass and drives like stock with the dual mass flywheel.

Can you tell me if this setup will last like stock? My experience with non Porsche cars is that the stock disc and a much heavier pressure plate works best for longevity reasons.
I think I'd rather have a sprung disc no? I really don't abuse the clutch. My stock one went almost 30K miles with the max K24 setup and was only replaced because I was upgrading turbos.
I apprecate the advice.
How much are those parts and where do you get them?
Do people normally replace the dual mass flywheel? I understand it can't be machined?

Ari,
You just did a huge HP upgrade, so a new clutch, even a good one, is less likely to last as long as OEM. I got 65,000 miles on my OEM clutch, 45,000 of them at stage 2 and the last 15,000 on K16/24's. I don't know if this set-up will last that long, but it could...so far it's holding up very well for me.
I like the unsprung GT2 style - it drives just like stock with the DMF, but is lighter and will spin easier.
I would suggest a new DMF flywheel, unless your flywheel is relatively new.
These parts are readily available - you just need to know exactly what to ask for. IIRC it's 500 +/- for the disc, 1,200 +/- for the 999 PP and 1,000 +/- for the DMF.

I've had a UMW sourced LWFW and clutch for about 2 years..perhaps a little longer....and there is a rattle at idle. It doesn't bother me. I love the response...I tested a "new" M3 v8 model and by comparison that tach crawled......just fyi. The LWFW on these cars is amazing....
The problem everyone has is that there is a variance in people's taste/tolerance. I tried to youtube my unit (jcbmemphis...no hyphen)...but it is not the same as being in the car.
I love mine. This issue comes up over and over.
Some love JIC's...some hat them, etc.
I hope it gets better for you over time....the fast rev up and down as intoxicating for me.
Jeff

My issue is not the rattle at idle. It's the gear whine under load at anything between 2-3K rpm. Unless this is a second bad TO bearing (which is not likely), I'm definitely going back to the dual mass.
