Brad, it is an anti pollution pump. As soon the car is started for 50 to 179 seconds an air pump start to inject fresh air into the exhaust gas flow to speed up the chemical reaction into the catalytic converter. Many cars got that feature....

Thanks! I suspected that, but seriously... a modern car with an air pump?... I'd have figured the air pump went away with the carburetor.... Sequential injection and proper tuning is where the future lies...I mean, EGR pretty much is dead with proper computer management.

Anyone looked at omitting this piece and tricking the DME into thinking it's still there?

I was talking with Tony at EPL, he felt that he could delete the Air pump from the DME with a flash. He was going to get back with me on this later today.

If one was going to spend $1300+ it might be worthy of doing some research as to the pro/con of such a mod when a flash is similar money.

I've been there and done that with other members 3 times.
This is easy to fix if the air pump is not shot.

If you need more send me a message and you can call me.

That's interesting if he can trick the ECU. But normally you also have to had a resistance to sheat the system. Anyway I am anxious to see if it can be done.

As am I. That pump is pretty big and would free up lots of room and clean things up a bit. :Especially for doing silly stuff like fuel injector and pressure bypass valve adjustments.

I agree with you plus you are eliminating a common cause of troubles and cels light.... But I guess for California resident they are not aloud to perform any modification to this system because of the emission strict laws... Just guessing here...

Air Pump/Check Valve/Engine Lowering instructions

1. How to lower the engine cradle. You must also remove the air box and watch your upper intercooler hoses.

2. The diagrams for what is what for ordering parts. I ordered from Suncoast Porsche.

i had similar codes before and it was my diverter valves, have you changed those?

You can remove the air puimp without moving the engine, check for the post DIY about how to change the fpr to a 5 bar, you have to move the pump to get there.
