What are the fault codes?

I would get a second opinion and see if you can find an independant with a good rep to take it to.

Where in CA are you located - we may be able to help you with a good shop.

You probably need the codes read by someone with a PST2 or PIWIS. Loren from RennTech lives in the Roseville area...which is about an hour's drive for you. If you contacted him on RennTech and made an appointment, he'd run the PIWIS on your DME and should be able to take a pretty good look at what is stored in your computer. I wouldn't just take a dealership's word for it and turn them loose on my car....get a second opinion. We have some really good indy's up here too...the dealerships are charging $160 an hour...the indy's run between 100 and $120 p/hr. I have all my work done by indys now.

It is related to your secondary air pump, it has no flow. First thing to do, if you have a Durametric, is to go to "drive link" and select "secondary air pump" if it is not starting , check the fuse. It is located on relay panel #2 besides the ECU. Over the rear seats. If you don't have a Durametric simply start the car and locate the pump on the right side and see if it is functioning. It should start for a period of 50 to 179 seconds. If the fuse is Ok there is a possibility the pump or the relay is unserviceable. The relay can be check see the pics.... But the sad part, the pump is really expensive, part# 99660510400 $1472.25....Go through all the steps of the "work instructions" before you purchase a pump.... Also I add a picture of the pump and the switch over valve. This valve can also be at fault and all the vacuum lines going to it should be check properly... Good luck...

Chuck suggestion is the best one if you are not to good mechanically. Loren is very good at helping everyone on Renntech and seems to be passionate about Porsches since a long time.....

I have a source that can get the pump for around $1300 if you need one and want to replace it yourself... Just PM me and I can get you in touch.

As stated above..
P0491/2 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1/2 – Below Limit

Possible fault cause
♦ Secondary air injection pump is not triggered
♦ Secondary air injection pump does not work
♦ Air supply lines restricted
♦ Electric change-over valve does not function
♦ Air change-over valve does not function
♦ Vacuum system leaking

I would seriously look for leaks. How is the car running?

Quickie check. I am not sure what the code was BUT I have had the secondary airpump relay come loose twice, (it is now duct taped) Simple to check by removing the rear cover behind passenger seat.

Junior: Jflip and WROSS had some excellent suggestions...but if you're not mechanically inclined, then I've sent you a PM with some contact information. Hope it works out for you.

I can give you a ride back to Stockton if you have to leave your car up here. I need to make a trip to Ceres anyway to pick up some more of the Mobil 1 5W-50. I had ten cases to begin with but some of the local guys have bought it up....so I need to get some more.

My car got a P0492 about a month ago; after I reset it. It hasn't come back, knock on wood. Have you tried reset it and see if it is coming back?
