I used to mt. bike all the time and loved it. I live about 5 miles from a ski mt and they used to have a mt bike trail I would go up on the gondola with my bike and the trail ran from the very top right to the bottom.
My mt bike has a rigid frame and I actually enjoyed that more than one with a suspension as it was a lot more involving to find a clean line down the trail. Unfortunately a storm a couple of years back closed down the trail and it was never reopened. Once you do downhill nothing else compares.

My favorite roadbike is a Giant Team CFR frame build up from 1996. It's carbon with aluminum lugs and I'm running Campy Record carbon components. The bike has been a very trusty and faithful steed on those long century training rides... I've also got a Raleigh road bike I used to keep on the trainer to do spinerval training with.

Great bike. Smoooooth. You'll have to let us know how the Hammerschmidt works for you.

I'm actually heading up to Greenville to go mountain biking this Thursday. I'm staying with friends that I normally meet up in NC. They tell me Greenville is an absolutely great place to live. It will be nice to mountain bike somewhere that's not in the 80's with stiffling humidity.

I ride a Yeti 575.

Video

not hardcore, but I ride locally, did a trip to Moab last year (awesome), and downhilled in Vail awhile back. I made a little video for my friends with my GoPro camera who asked what it is like to ride. Here it is:

here is the race I did, but many years earlier. They did not change much. Just the area I crashed in is not in the video. Too bad it was a drop off of a boulder into a steep chute with a left hand turn at the bottom. I dislocated my pinky and was trying to put it back in place so I could finish the run, and I was out of the path of other riders, when I hear another rider coming, I guess he didn't expect the severe drop off, and I looked up and saw the look in his face, as he said "oh ****" and crashed at the bottom hard..lol. I finally got my finger back in place and continued, only to shread a tire, then drl and then wheel right before the finish. Oh, did I mention it is an expensive sport

Did anyone here ever have, or know someone on the list who had, one of the 2000 Porsche Design FS Evo, full-carbon frame bicycles? It's a Storck/Votec frame/fork.

I could really use a peek at the owners manual or any technical information - in english. Everything that I've found, so far, about the Votec GS4 fork (my current focus) is in German.

I'm trying to bring one back to life. I thought it would be easier than working on my 911.

My "other" bike is a 1970s Witcomb-built Reynolds 531 full-Campy road bike so this is my first exposure to air/oil shocks and hydraulic braking.
