New external waste gate exhaust set up

New external waste gate exhaust set up
finally bit the bullet and had to convert to external waste gates due to continually breaking the upgraded Protomotive acutator rods (four of them)
I have straight pipes so this is not exactly a standard set up. also note that I had FVD straight pipes and the custom header setup missed the oil lines but I had to have the straight pipes completely redone (1K)
end result (by Vortexmotorsports of course) was excellent.
now for the good part. the car spools even faster than ever. seems to have boost all the time like a supercharger. I had to turn the Greddy boost controller gain down to 12% and boost down to max of 1 bar to stop the wheels breaking loose between all gear shifts!
overall performance of car is the best it has ever been, off to the track for a shake down DE next weekend then full out racing again next month.

Looks good Tom! Nice to see you've got a low duty cycle on the Greddy, if you ever need more power it's just a retune, thank of race gas and a few more clicks of boost to make a ton more!
Have fun next week with it at Sebring ! Had this on my schedule to get some seat time in my new Z4M but looks like we'll be moving the business. Whats your event schedule look like after this ?

Tom, I'm glad to see the install was successful, but that is a bummer about the axtra labor on your straight pipes. Still, improved reliability was the goal and you've achieved that. Improved performance is icing on the cake! Congrats!
PS- The more I think about it, having the WG gasses vent to the rear is the best setup to avoid adding heat to the engine compartment.

Tom, on the contrary! That's a huge claim to fame. Tell me who on this forum is bad *** enough to have a Sebring mishap on his resume? Like "I was shot down by a Messershmitt and parachuted behind enemy lines". It's not a failure, it's a story for the grand kids.

I have a question that pops into mind with external wastegates.
When they vent, are they not VERY noisy? I would think that they would produce a "Crack" or similar sound, then a load exhaust noise for the time they are vented.
Would this not be quite obnoxious on the classy street setup?
Just asking. I really dislike the boy racer noisy setups myself (Track use not withstanding). Just my humble optinion. But for all I know they me sound normal.

if the car is street driven leave your wastegate setup alone.
